Kyosho Wing Master 10 Ultralight w/ Magnum .15

Yesterday, I adopted an old Kyosho Wingmaster 10 Ultralight. The model has been at the top of my bucket list for 30+ years, so a full restoration will be accomplished over the next month or so.

The plan is to fly this classic and capture flights on video. I've never seen one fly, so this will be a treat!

First thing to go is that huge spinner. Current restoration checklist items: Clean the aluminum airframe, replace wing struts, replace pushrod guides, minor rudder repair, repaint red on wing and stabs and thoroughly clean/run the Magnum .15 engine.

Keep the classics in the air!

Best,
Tony

I think the HUGE spinner is the issue, which makes the engine look bigger. It should be a fun one.

It would go faster with a tuned pipe and a 020 prop, doncha think?

Restoration has begun.

This morning, I cleaned the wing with 70% isopropyl alcohol, masked and repainted red.

Next up will be minor repairs to the stabs, then prep for paint.

Completed vertical and horizontal stab repairs, repainted red stabs, and cleaned aluminum airframe.

Next on the list will be removing/replacing engine and installing servos.

Why would you replace the engine?

These engines are great! They are about the same weight as an OS .10FP engine, while being able to swing an 8x4 prop (at around 140000rpm). What's not to like about that?

The OS .10FP is new, period correct (80's) and 2.3 oz lighter.

Really? Perhaps I have been mistaken the engine in the picture then...

It looks to me like the Thunder Tiger .15 with a baffle on the piston? These weight about 165g with their stock muffler, while the OS .10FP weights about 160g (with its stock muffler), so not much (>0.2 oz) difference in weight...

Just want to say, don't ditch it till you try it.

No ditching, the Magnum .15 will be used on another model.
