Slope sites on Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Block Island

I will spend the first week in August sailing Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Block Island - any good suggestions for decent sloping sites on these islands?

Eh, aren't those places all like 30 feet above sea level, or less? LOL

Seriously, there's got to be some dunes or something you can fly off of. Take a light lift plane and have at it!

Steve,
Aswering my own question, 160 ft ASL looks good at Gay Head light on MV.

Some bluffs on Block I. - also 160'.

Question of access is another point. MV is a pretty busy place and GH light is on the opposite side of the island from where I'll be mooring, maybe 20 miles away - could be a nice bike ride. Block I. is deserted by comparison.

I'll pack a Pixel and see what happens!

Your secret is safe with me!

I was lucky enough to go to Nantucket once, many moons ago. Very pretty area...plenty of seabreeze and it sounds like some decent sized hills. Hopefully they face into the prevailing wind. Enjoy!

My mom recenty moved to Nantucket, but I havn't got a chance to visit yet. I've seen some incredible slope pictures and I think it must be similar to Cape Cod. I bet you could fly just about any slope plane, light or heavy. I'll probably vist after tourist season. Let us know what you find.

All in all, it sounds like a great trip you have planned.

Also, while this is not slope soaring, it's a worthwile side trip:

If you can get to Katama Airport on the Vineyard near Edgartown, you'll find a classic old-school airport. No control tower, no pavement, all three runways are turf, and a restored Waco bipe gives scenic rides from there.

Highly recommended!

Here's the pilot-speak goods on the place, but also there are some useful links in there for other users: http://www.airnav.com/airport/1B2

Hard to go wrong with a funky old airport that doubles as a dedicated wildlife refuge!
