Celluloid 6's

All those pics from the movie are buried in Kentucky. I'll see if Sam can get to them...

Ed, thanks for the info. I have a bunch of photos of the filming at China Lake but have not been able to find them. They are packed away in storage but I will try to find them and post here.

Might be interested in one of the 6's if it fits my budget. IF I get one it will be turbine powered.

Thanks again,
Ed

Access...AKA Retract, EDF Cradle, & Bulkheads

With the left gear access now the rear bulkhead, EDF cradle, and gear mounting rail templates can be fit.
When installed I cut the right doors. Most of this energy will be spent on the inlet and exhaust ducking.

Butting Up The Bulkheads

The movie former/bulkheads were far from light weight; a ply/fiberglass/ply laminate. Note the movie model creators attention to fit and finish... More hurry up and finish than attention to fit. Gotta love the symmetry. Note they "wedged" the front former to build in T/C and angle toward the exhaust outlet. There was no inlet ducting in the movie 6's.

The perimeter of the originals were duplicated on 1/4" corrugation then quartered to permit overlapping to fit the sections to fuse interior top, bottom, left and right sides. On the EDF version I am doing my best to "not" have a backbone hatch. The retract door bays permit placement and access to all central interior components.

Our movie 6 does not have landing gear so the stress of "landing" was reduced to surviving "sliding". There was a wooden keel epoxied to the interior of the fuse bottom. Fuse interior is now designed with retract rails, EDF cradles, wing tube galley, inlet and exhaust duct support.

Below is an edited image of another model. Note the wing tube galley, EDF cradles, and along the outside perimeter the retract rails which run from the rear former to the EDF cradle. Thank heavens for our laser cutter...

Looks like I will be able to place the wing tube galley directly over the JetFan 110's instead of the original position for the ByroJets. The original wing did not utilize a wing tube. It used Byron's bar and slot method with one hardwood dowel near the wing leading edge. Rear bulkhead/former is 15" forward of the exhaust and new design EDF cradle is 28" forward of the exhaust.

Robert,

Sorry it took so long to reply. I anticipate sometime between April-May '23 for first flight if everything fits as planned.
Now that many of the outsourced elements are inhouse that time frame is doable. Like Mel Brooks says..."Work, work,
work". Lots of moving parts.

Awesome! So i read the thread and checked out your website. Are you looking to deliver this in an ARF format? Or are we looking at a lot of building?

Keep up the good work!
