Lumberjack goes over 100mph Front Side

Great Lift on the switchback on Zion tonight. Possible best ever lift flown at that particular part of the hill. 40 - 60 mph straight on the hill and smooth. Very cool cloud formations. I caught myself looking at the clouds instead of the plane several times. Thunder storms were creating the wind and cool clouds. In was an awsome backdrop.

Only made one run on the radar gun (stalker pro) and clocked in at 101mph. I could have easily gone faster, but did not dive in from very high. I know I was going definately faster than that while pumping. Broke servo horn on botched landing in router or would have made more passes on the gun.

Hopefully some pics and vids coming soon. I won't spoil the surpise, but more and much faster speeds coming in posts soon. Lots of personal front side reconds broken tonight. No one quite made it to the 150 club but we came fairly close.

LEG P51 60" was cooking as well. I was pumping 4 - 5 second pumps consistantly and a few even better than that. Weight of the plane at 58 -59 oz. Much bigger air than MWSC on Thursday for any of you guys that made it to Kansas. 800 foot high hill, at about 55 degree slope. We just needed more warbirds. I had the only one flying.

I busted up the 48" P51 a bit, tore off an aileron, when I pancaked from 50 feet off a botched pump then stall in over the top of the hill. Ran out of airspace and elevator all at once. Hit on a big rock. No other damage. Happened before the lift got really good of course.

Don't want to spoil the surprises so I will shut up now.

I was really wanting a 'real' lead sled. Maybe I will have to join the Jart revolution. How many layers of carbon do I need to get it to bounce off rocks. Hmmm...... I have almost 50 feet of 60" 5.7oz carbon. Will it be enough?

Check out this thread for more details of the day. Ian spilled the beans on some of the speeds we were clocking.

I totally spaced the Lumbejack.

You weren't pumping anywhere near 101mph with anything though. Nobody
was. We did have the radar down on the rock at one point earlier when
I was flying the Bluto (which pumps every bit as high as the lumberjack)
and bottom of the pumps was typically 60-70mph. It required a few more
hundred feet of altitude to get over 100mph. I did forget to mention
in my other post that all of our speed runs started with slope lift though.
No thermals. We could climb back to the same spot over and over again.

The couple of real good pumps I did, that I think was over the 101 was when I climbed up just like the speed runs only I dove in more vertical and pumped it on the other side. I could tell the speed was way up by the way it was flying. No one was on the point or gun when I did it. My speed run dive was pretty shallow and I wasn't very smooth on the pull out.
