NCSS F3F Race #1, Sunday Feb 28, 2021 (backup date)

Hello Slope Racers,

We are 10 days away from this year's first scheduled F3F race of NCSS 2021 series.

Race venue is the SLoT. Though long range forecast is not great now, there is plenty of time for improvement. Look for an update here mid-next week.

Sign-ups are here: https://f3xvault.com/?action=event&f...&event_id=2026

Get those race ships tuned up and ready.

Looking forward to seeing everybody

Mehrdad

We have a good group of pilots signed up (Thank you) however several wind forecast models are diverged and even best conditions predicted at this time are barely enough to support a race this Sunday.

Let's wait a couple more days to see if things improve.

If this Sunday's wind forecast does not improve we may try for backup date the following Sunday (Feb 28th).

Please check back here Friday afternoon for next update...

Race is on for this Sunday

Alrighty, we must in a "goldilock" period here where pretty much all forecast sites and models at the moment are reporting wind goodness for this Sunday. If weather does what they say we will have great race conditions on the steeper east side slope face

Let's all check back here Friday afternoon for pilot's meeting and start time announcement...

Pilot's meeting 9:15am, race starts immediately afterwards

Looks like we could have a great day of racing.

Let's start early in case the wind drops off early.

Race lock will be on gate by 8:15am. Be sure to re-close gate and re-latch lock after passing thru.

Please arrive early enough to account for getting through gate, drive up on access road, help with course & equipment setup, and test flights before pilot's meeting at 9:15am sharp.

We plan to start racing immediately after the pilot's meeting.

This is going to be fun

What a great season opener! Congratulations to Mehrdad for doing an excellent job as cd for the event and to all the pilots that showed up. We had 12-13 pilots, did one ups and the event moved very smoothly. The east side has beautiful views and there was wind cycling but not to the extent there is on the West side. Scott flew very well and understandably some pilots were a little rusty. Ron showed up and flew very well with a new plane, the device. I hope we see him again soon! I was very pleased just to be flying f3f again after the break put all the the other stuff away and share a beautiful day flying with friends.

NCSS club had its first F3F race of this season. It felt good to be back racing after winter break.

We had a good sized turn-out with 14 pilots. What a way to kick off the season!!

The east side wind gods delivered and everybody seemed to enjoy the day.

Thank you pilots for coming out early morning and being patient for the wind to come on good enough to start racing.

The race operations teamwork by all was truly amazing, this group is like a machine completing 8 rounds in a 4-hour window. Here is some simple stats for perspective, 14 pilots flew 112 rounds in 240 minutes, that works out to avg of 2.14 minute per pilot per flight (which includes launch, race run, and landing, & repeat).

Race results are here: https://www.f3xvault.com/?action=eve...&event_id=2026

Congrats to Miguel for the win. Well-deserved as he consistently flew the course fast and tight, putting his FS6 where he wanted. It was great to watch and learn from his moves.

With Scott and Ken rounding out podium winners.

Plus several pilots who set new personal bests for themselves, that is a lot to be proud of.

The day got even better with a welcomed surprise, our dear friend and top gun pilot Ron Vann joined us after a 2-year hiatus. He ran the course like a boss with a newly built ‘Device’, a great ship which we look forward to see more of.

Chris Brose from Idaho raced with us too. This was his first time visiting the slot yet he raced like he has been flying there for years. What a great pilot, though he doesn’t race F3F at all he was flying the course like a pro. And everyone enjoyed his company and sincerely hope to see him fly with us more.

A big ‘thank you’ to Gérard Menut, club member-at-large, who drove out to the slot to purely support our race by helping man bases.

Looking forward to do it again next month.

NCSS race #2 is scheduled for March 14th. Miguel is the CD.

Thanks to Mehrdad for running a great race. What a great day at the hill. I am glad the wind came through just as Mehrdad thought it would. It was a treat to race on the East side of the hill, and a great start to the season.

Thank you Gerard for coming out to help! What a great club-mate!

Had a great time talking to Chris from Idaho. Super nice person and a great pilot.

Congrats on taking the top step Miguel. Well deserved.

It was a great day, with everyone pitching in and lots of great flying, with a one exceptions (me).
Beautiful day at the hill flying in strong , smooth air on the East side with the sun at your back.
Miguel flew very well as did Scott, Ken, Ron and Mehrdad. Andy was carving it up with his FS-3 and Chris had the most fun just nailing the turns and making his plane sing.
You never can have too much fun flying on a day like yesterday.
