servos


Hi all what is the differences between

Hitec HS-425BB Deluxe Ball Bearing Standard Servo ?

and

Hitec HS-422 Standard Servo Direct Drive, Dual Oilite Bearings?
looking to put theses in a Phoenix Model Zero RC Plane, .46 Size ARF

The only difference seems to that the 425 has Ball bearings(Better, less wear) vs the 422 with Oilite Bearings(Bushings). It looks like the price difference is not that big so i would go with the Hitec HS-425BB Deluxe Ball Bearing Standard Servo.

My brother has a metal lathe that was made in the 1930's which uses oilite bearings and they are still good. Oilite bearings can be more precise than ball bearings and they handle high loads better. Plain bearings are in no way "worse" than rolling element bearings which is better all depends on the application.

Yes, oilite bearings can be better for load carrying and impact loads. However, they need to remain clean of debris and be properly lubricated to do so. The ball bearings used in servos have seals that help to keep debris out of the races.
