That's incredible efficiency for a brushed motor operating above its nominal voltage !

My idea of using the the 8.4v LRP Zenit was to get higher efficiency by operating it closer to its nominal rating (as compared to a 6v or 7.2v can 400). An extra 21g 'well spent', in my opinion.

I am not too sure it would be easy to fit standard size servos inside the TS II fuselage. The moulded pockets have been designed for perfect drop-in MPX Tiny S servos, apparently (or so it seems to me) with a lot of consideration for space management. Problems might come from control rods position relative to servo arm position with higher servos, also from available space in which to house the battery pack between wider servos.
Concerning the one stick eight cells pack, weight would be alright but perhaps it might prove difficult to move the pack sufficiently forward or backward to hit the right CG spot.

Various : I think 5x5 black 'hard' Gunther props (on 8 cells) will rev too high and draw too much on 480 motors which are an option precisely retained to benefit from a higher torque and a lower current draw. They would be an improvement on the white ones on 400 motors. My electric specialist also tells me 450 motors will draw a lot of current, not an interesting solution.

Could anyone tell me which is the better choice for 7/8 cells with the white gunthers standard 6v or 7.2v s400?
Called into Punkies today (ModelSpot), came back with a nice new TS11.

Hi Chris,

High voltage - within reason - is always good for efficiency. The Turbo 450 has its max. efficiency at approx. 10A, while the Permax 400 peaks at approx. 4A (at 10A their efficiency is down to approx. 50%!). Nominal voltage is not important - it is Amps you have to worry about.

Does the Twinstar 2 have any flying problems? As I recall the original Twinstar had some problems with the motors being aimed too far up.

The upthrust on the TS1 doesn't cause any problems, it's just there to make hand launches even easier. I removed it from mine when I fitted geared motors and it made no difference in flight whatsoever (I never hand launch my TS).

Maidened my TwinStar II with a 2s1p Kokam 3200 this evening. New RTF is now 1070g (37.75 oz). Max. static current of the two Permax 400 with CAM 5.5x4.3" is approx. 24A.

I made three flights with one charge - total flight time 20 minutes - with plenty of aerobatics. When the ESC indicated that the battery was getting empty, I still had the feeling of plenty of power left, but recharge took 3066mAh.

20 minutes with 3Ah means 9A average, i.e. 4,5A per motor - nice setup.

How does the TS II perform with Lipos? Very agile - best compared to an A-10 "Warthog". Also the glide rate is fantastic - almost like a glider - glad that I've got spoilerons.

I have to get Jim to do some video.

Absolutely the 6v motor; the 7.2v motor is lacklustre on anything under 9 cells (or 3s lipo).

Got a second Permax 450 Turbo today. Before I change motors, I will do some static testing - Permax 400 versus Permax 480 versus Permax 450 Turbo - at various voltages. Might take some time, as I will be at the E-Meeting in Rothenburg, Bavaria this weekend.

its a good job Punkies were waiting on a shipment of EZ Stars (they only had the ARF version inc. radio) Im selling my gliders to please my credit card.

The only change I did was shortening the outer tubes of the rudder linkage by 5mm and mounting the rudder horn connector upside down (you need to shorten the hex key to get to the scrub scew then).
