Third Annual Retina Burner June 25th

Back by popular demand, the Third Annual Retina Combat Day will be held at the Hood River slope site, also known as Lumber. Same deal as in years past. Show up, slap down your buddies and no whinning. Helmets are strongly recommended. No prizes except for bragging rights for one year. OK, I'm working on the prizes part but I'm not making any promises. You might end up with a sack of foam dust. This is a very loose event as always so about the only thing you can count on is a good time. The beatings start at 11:00 and go until your Mom calls you home for dinner. See you at the hill.

Directions
I 84 to the Mt Hood Hiway 35 exit.
Go south on 35 about 1 mile. Turn left on Whiskey Creek Rd.
Go up the hill to the stop sign. Turn Left and then take the next Right on Old Dalles Road.
Go up the hill about 2 miles until the cattle gates on both sides of the road.
Do not park in front of the gates.
Hike west up the hill until you see a group of flyers. About 7 minutes up hill.
Introduce yourself, check your frequency, and let the games begin.

Sounds like fun. Where is the Hood River slope site? I used to windsurf in that area a few years (actually, more than a few) ago...

I'll BEE there!

I am headin up there today to check out the site, its only an hour from me. Taking my old Zagi 3C to see if I can remember how to do this? I picked up a BEE last week from Cal. Sailplanes on sale. So what the heck! I have two weeks to tune up and get the BEE finished. Im gonna try the goop method I have been reading about on these posts. Hope it gives me some protection?

Looking forward to my first slope combat event, glad that its an informal deal!

Watch your BEEhinds!

Oh, don't you worry, it'll be windy. It's howling down here now, supposed to blow 20-30 for the next few days and I doubt the weekend will be any different. The wind machine has been on for at least two weeks so far.

Todd,

I have had pretty good luck with the wind reports at Hood River from Wunderground.com

I live an hour away in Troutdale so I usually check before I go. If anything they are a few (5) MPH lower than up on the ridge.

The detailed forcasts are pretty good also.

See you up there! I dont know If I will fly or not? Im still in dumb thumb mode from not having flown for a few years. But Ill bring along my old Zagi 3C and my Bee if I can get it done. I had a hard time locating Goop that was UV stabilized. Got it at Rite-aid of all places, go figure!

This will be my first slope combat experience.

Ill have a camera also to capture the event.

Uhh..will a bicycle helmet work or do I need to borrow a hardhat?

OK Foam bashers,
I just got two $25 gift cert. in my hand from Tammies Hobbies in Beaverton. Coyote Hobbies is also supposedly going to kick in some goodies also, so there is now more on the line than just bragging rights. You better bring your A game so Kip doesn't end up with all the glory. Someone still might end up with a sack of foam dust though.

Ummm...Is there any rules?

I KNOW your first reaction is "WE DONT NEED NO STINKIN RULES!"

But seriously this is my first go round with this, I'll prolly get a bag of foam dust! Ill dump out the dust and use the bag to carry home my pieces!

So! Throw me a bone here guys!
