Description:

Register your event - Clubs and organizers are invited to register their events by filling out our online event application. One of the main benefits of having your event on the Tour is that we expect it will encourage more pilots to attend. Note there is a $3/pilot fee to clubs (due when you send us your scores) to cover end-of-season award and related expenses.

Updated 2021 F5J Rules- We have gone through our rules website pages and updated the Tour Contest Rules. There were no changes to the FAI F5J Rules or CD Guidelines this time. You can find all this info from our main Rules page where you will find all the details.
2021 Tour Contest Rules changes:
Landing tape positioning Rule 3. 3A. This Tour rule was added to require that landing tapes be stretched out straight and flat against the ground. This rule was added to prevent landing tapes from being used to arrest a sliding plane. See the Tour Contest Rules page for details.
If you plan to host a Tour event we suggest that you review the above rules and CD Guidelines information and also check out the Qualifying Events page.

F5J USA Tour Advisory Group - This group is responsible for managing the Tour and includes the following key supporters and pioneers of USA-based F5J: Lee Wolfe, Steve Neu, Lenny Keer, Larry Jolly, Jim Monaco, David Beach, and Chris Bajorek. Each advisor brings significant experience and energy to this group.

2020 financial statement now available- Following the end of each season we publish a financial statement (our ledger) that shows the Tour's sources and uses of funds. You can find our 2020 season ledger at the bottom of our Financial Declaration page.

Join our email list - The Tour maintains an email list that is used to deliver occassional announcements and even a newsletter every now and then. If you are not already on our list you can sign up on f5j-usa.com via the "F5J USA Tour email list" box located in the right-hand sidebar of every page.

Hope to see you at the next F5J USA Tour event. Thanks for your ongoing support of US-based F5J.

What a difference a year makes! We have a very nice Tour calendar through June: 10 events! 5 West and 5 East. That includes one new West club (F5JinLA) and one new East club (SKSS).

Until the Team Selects date is decided (~April) we are expecting the 2nd half schedule may be a bit slower to fill in. Stay tuned.

Good luck to the guys at the Florida event this weekend. They will be using Gliderscore so hopefully we can follow the scores realtime.

Looking forward to seeing some of you soon in Phoenix.

F5J-USA Store - Cool new shirt designs

Greetings F5J pilots! The f5j-usa.com website has hosted an F5J apparel store for nearly 2 years now. The store's shirts have been a fun way to help promote F5J in the U.S.

I have some great news. One of my local club guys Ken Becker is a professional graphics designer with creative skills. Ken generously offered to create new designs for our store. So after getting the Tour's Advisory Group to review them, the store now has 7 new designs from Ken that are available on shirts, hoodies, hats, stickers, water bottles, and more.

Description:

Check out all the new designs here: F5J-USA Store
Note: None of this Store's proceeds are directed to USA F5J World Championship teams. Team funds are generated via separate fundraising campaigns on a different website.

We hope you like what you see. Wear cool apparel, put stickers on your planes, and help grow F5J in the USA! The more interest we see in our F5J store stuff the more we will keep adding goodies. Thanks.

P.S. This message went out yesterday on the F5J USA Tour email list. If you are not yet on the list you can sign up on f5j-usa.com from every page in the right-hand column.

F5J Timers for GliderScore

Over the years I have customized a series of F5J timers for GliderScore (GS). These timers fall into 3 categories: 10 minute timers for qualifying rounds, 15 minute timers for fly-offs, and more recently I added a "self-timed" timer that is useful for running small contests where you want all pilots flying without the need for timer persons to time their flights.

I have been sharing these timers for years on a by-request basis since GS makes it so easy to import timers. SInce I'm seeing a big increase in clubs starting F5J I've decided to post them here for anyone to use. You can view and download the timers and the audio files via this cloud folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...8p?usp=sharing

This folder has all the .timer files for importing into your GliderScore system. The "GS F5J timer audio files" sub-folder contains all the audio files that are needed for these timers. Note that many of these are not standard GS files and that there are several different British female voices used for them.

You can read details about the timers and the file naming convention in the READ.ME file. That file is copied below.

Good F5J flying!
--Chris

READ.ME file for F5J timers:

These .timer files can be imported into GliderScore by opening a competition, selecting the Audio & Timer | Digital Timer option, then clicking Timer Setup at the top of the screen. From there click the Import button at the bottom of the screen.

--File Naming Convention--
The filename of the timer identifies the parameters of that timer. e.g. F5JTimer-5m10m-LL-CT(CB1).timer means 5 mins prep time-10 mins working time-a 1-min Late Landing window timer at the end of the round-and an added segment of 5 or 6 minutes of "Catchup Time" that gets run only at the start of a new round (view the timer steps to verify the actual catchup time duration) If LL or CT is omitted from the timer filename then those timer segments are omitted from that timer.

--Self-timing timer--

There is one timer that is useful for small group practice contests:
F5JTimer-7m10m-selftime (CB1).timer
This timer is used when you want all pilots to fly and "self time" their flights. So this timer announces the times more often (at least every 30 seconds) so that if a pilot lands early they can estimate their flight time without a stopwatch.

--Audio files for these timers--
Be aware that these scripts use audio prompts that are not part of the standard GliderScore installation. So you will also need to copy those audio prompts that your imported script(s) reference into your Audio sub-folder. To determine the audio prompts used click on the imported timer and view the timer steps on the screen. The "Announcement file name" field shows the name of the prompt. Then you will need to add those audio files using the GliderScore "Announcements" window. Sounds like a pain but once you have done it once it's not too bad.

Web links to past GliderScore online scores

When you run an F5J contest using GliderScore and choose to make the contest "Public," you can upload your contest results (with or without using smartphone scoring). This allows others to see your contest scores from the GliderScore.com Online Scores page. This is saved as a long term (many years) online archive for both overall results and group-by-group flight scores.

If you want to generate a browser link to a contest that you have run, start GliderScore, then open the eScoring window, then in the "Create Link to OnLine Scores" area click the "Final" button. That copied web link will point directly to your final results.

GliderScore programmer Gerry Carter just added a handy feature. Now you can create that same online scores link for any past contest, even if you were not the computer dude who ran that contest. On the GliderScore.com Online Scores page Gerry has added a "Download Comp List" button.

Name: download-comp-list-button.png
Views: 16
Size: 137.3 KB
Description:

When you click it you can download a .tsv file that has a list of ALL online archived competitions along with their CompID numbers. So now you can easily create a specific link to any single competition by downloading the Comp List (CompetitionList.tsv), opening it up in Excel, finding your contest, then copy the CompID (a 13 character numbers and letters ID). Then insert that ID into this web link:

http: //gliderscore.com/onlinescores.aspx?ID=xxxxxxxxxxxxx&T=F

where "xxx..." is the copied CompID, and "&T=F" means to show the final contest results. Don't include any spaces after the http: I had to add them to override the RC Groups annoying formatting thing where it hides part of a web link.

Example: from the downloaded CompetitionList.tsv file it shows the "4/24/2021 F5J LA Tour Perris" contest ID as 3BD14d8643b3. So the results web link for that contest is:

http: //gliderscore.com/onlinescores.aspx?ID=3BD14d8643b3&T=F

Try that link by clicking here: http://gliderscore.com/onlinescores....D14d8643b3&T=F

Hey it works!

Any questions let me know. Thanks for the new feature Gerry!

That's very helpful, thank you Chris and Gerry.
In the URL, you can move the T=F argument to the beginning, then the ID will be at the end and will be easier to cut/paste/replace

Web link to GS online scores - Even easier now

Gerry Carter just made it even easier to generate a link to past GliderScore online scores. Now the actual CompetitionList.tsv file has a new column "LinkToOnLineFullResults" with the scores URL already generated, as follows:

Size: 335.4 KB
Description:

Very nice! Thanks much Gerry. When I have more time I'll update Post #13 above with this new info.
