Isn't it funny people get offended about things they don't understand?

Case in point, my avatar. Does it offend you, if so why? Everyone please be polite.

you have to remember, in the case of your avatar, that most people only associate the nazi party with the swastika. i do not think a lot of society realizes that the swastika has been around much longer and is not unique to germany or the nazi party. you're right, though, people who do not understand something can certainly have the wrong reactions.

I believe the Hopi's use a symbol like that in their spiritual time line. Not sure what it represents. David

History of the Swastika

http://history1900s.about.com/cs/swa...ikahistory.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

"For 3,000 years, the swastika meant life and good luck. But because of the Nazis, it has also taken on a meaning of death and hate. "

Due to the history of this symbol in the 20th century, perhaps it is not the best symbol to promote.

Unless you have no exposure to 20th century history at all, I am fairly sure you know why your avatar can be offensive. Perhaps you can elighten us to why you have it as your avatar? Is it because your practice Jainism and it is a symbol of your ancient religion or is it because you wish to antagonize or "stir things up"?

It doesn't offend me, but BrunswickOH's aviator is a CD Rom stator, and those look like evil eyes.
I hate evil eyes, so BrunswickOH's aviator is offensive.

What is interesting to me is that everyone gets upset about a swastika, but no one gets bent out of shape about someone displaying a Japanese rising sun on a model. The Japanese were just as cruel and ruthless as the Germans.

Ironically, I was just "counciled" (Not in an overbearing way) yesterday for using the Dickens quote "The law is an "Small donkey"", because there was concern that the same word that means "Small donkey" also can mean "Derrier".

Ignorant people jump to conclusions, and just don't want to know when they are being ignorant.

Oh I don't mind those that jump to conclusions. I just hate the ones that are shown the error and continue on.

There used to be a sailboat on Lake Chickamauga that had the rising sun on the stern. WWII vets that lived on the lake would start fingering their hardware when that boat would go by. David
