Take it from a fellow engineer, between classes and an internship extra/free time is a dream. I would be willing to bet that he hasn't been home for any reasonable amount of time since the original build. He may have to graduate first but he said it will fly and I believe it will! Anyway...

koko76, what is the status on the belt drive? Looking forward to seeing your fix and more of your beautiful work!

I'm studting Mechanical Engineering right now, and no time is a luxury that many of us dn't have in this profession. There is always so much to do when studying Engineering and this comes from one of the luckier ones for now because next semester will be even more heptic because I will be taking even more classes and several are sciences and math. But he'll get to it sometime.

Well the way big John flys it needs atleast 2:1 thrust so he can hover it in his face and do rolling circles with it.

I just wasted a huge opportunity to fly the big thing. I've been busy with school and training and haven't given a thought to flying much of anything. I went home for Thanksgiving and had four full days free. I had previously assumed it would be cold and didn't even think about flying during this break. When I got home I was greeted by 3 days of perfectly calm dry weather in the 40s and 50s. It was so calm Lake Superior looked like a sheet of glass. Perfect. bummer

So, a wasted opportunity. It looks like the next available window is summer '07. In addition, I dont think the motor is ready yet. One of these days I should really try to build a single big outrunner and solve the motor problem.

I checked on the storage situation of the plane while I was home. I had to move it out of the shop and into the shed. Hopefully the wind and snow doesn't mess it up too much this winter. Here's some pictures of it hanging from the trusses.

On the upside, I am almost through my first aero class. It's been awesome. Hopefully I can fit another one in my schedule before I graduate.

The plane can wait. Did you have a nice holiday? You shouldn’t have to work all of the time.

Thanks for the update.

Yes, the holiday was great! I did absolutely nothing for a couple days and it was awesome.

Congratulations for prioritising uni and completing your Aero class. The plane looks in good condition still, but the wing LE looks a bit too square - I would profile it before attempting to fly the beast.

Neil.

Hans-

It's all good news, really. You had a chance to relax -- a very important thing! Big Floyd looks fairly well protected for the winter, and this allows more time for resolving the motor situation.

We'll all be looking forward to further progress next year. In the meantime, best wishes for continued academic achievement.
