Cool photos...

Do you have details/photos of how the camera is mounted and operated on the plane?

Hi BB,

Actually, I've never taken a picture of my current set-up before, I'll have to do that. My camera is mounted to a cross brace on the AL. landing gear of my plane. It's a very rigid mount but because the camera is inverted, I have to post-process all of the images (and video). Trigger is via a servo. Because the camera mass is ahead of the planes' CG/COL, I simply move the flight battery to obtain a proper CG. The battery well in this aircraft has plenty of room to allow this.

I've used velcro (for my little cameras) and tape (long story)...

Devils Slide (USCA Scenic Ocean)

Just to the north of a little town called Montara, Highway 1 clings to the rocky shoreline as it winds its way along the California coastline.

It is ironic that this approximate 3 mile stretch of roadway offers some of the most gorgeous vistas. Yet it remains one of the most treacherous to navigate, especially after heavy rains like we've been enduring this winter. Recently, there was a large shift in the roadbed which prompted local and state authorities to shut down this stretch of highway so that repairs can be made.

There are plans underway to build a bypass tunnel forever shutting off this section of the highway. Of all the places I've driven, this has to be one of my most favorite spots. Oh well...

Edit: I just added a short flight video from this sortie!

Hmmm, Bodega Bay works for me. Maybe I should rename the thread to "Images from Around the Bay Area"

Hey, roger,

Do you think we can get closer from the North, down from Pacifica?

Hi Brian,

Although I've not looked from the north side, it's a good bet that the road is closed at the base of the mountain at Linda Mar. You can't see the slide area even if you launched from that side of the mountain and flew as high as you could/allowed...you would surely be out of radio range!

The Rock (USCA Scenic Landmark)

Surrounded by the waters of the bay and one of four major islands in the SF Bay, this former penitentiary is a worthwhile tour if you're in the area. You can even ask a tour guide to see what it's like being locked up in solitary...

I'm not much of a writer so you can read more about Alcatraz Island here.

Trivia question: What two Clint Eastwood films were shot at this location?

Fishermans Wharf (USCA Scenic Landmark)

The Grotto, Aliotos, Boudin Bakery. This is the spot to come to for Fresh Crab and Sourdough Bread. In fact, a really nice way to get away from the tourist crowd is to grab a loaf, a freshly steamed cracked-crab and take the ferry over to Angel Island for lunch.

Roger,
How early did you get to Pier 39? The sun looks pretty low in the photo.

Roger,

Really nice SF shots, What AP platform were you using for the SF shots?

Thanks,

Hi Brian, I arrived before dawn and waited until the sun angle was just right.

Well done E-Mo! (You even got the dates in there!)

Hi Scott, I was using my Banchee E-3D as the A.P. platform. I'm still designing the camera mount for my heli and hopefully will have that done soon! Can't wait...
