Yes, and RCG moderators allow SO much more than for example Runryder. The topic would have been closed right after the first few posts over on RR. There is a lot more freedom here on RCG! This is why a lot of people like it here. But if something is taken to the extreme, even here it will not be tolerated I guess by the moderators.

See what it all boils down to is that everyone here will miss out on the info people like Phil come up with because of some peoples "Americanized" veiws of vendors.

These people pay to advertise (Phil doesn't but MH does) here and help support the existance of these forums. People such as Phil from time to time will get the opportunity to review product prior to general release, great! I'd like to have an idea of how xxx product performs before shelling out the big ones. Wouldn't you?

But I reckon Phil and others would probably be better off posting their reviews on their own sites, saving the bickering that goes on here.

I wonder if people on the 'front line' agree?

I'm sure these people have better things to do with their time than sit down and nut out a reveiw, film vids and take pics for you lot to whinge about.

If you want reveiws from people with limited experience in the hobby then fine have it, people will use other sites to gleen their information from.

Would you take advice from a backyard mechanic over a specialist? I highly doubt it.

My 2 cents
I won't post to this thread again.

If "dealers' then probably better to do it this way and post links to their sites when done,at least they wont be in the firing line here and we can choose to go there and make our own judgement on wether we trust thier judgement or not.
In a public domain there is always going to be someone with an opinion and if you are marketing a product then that tactic may be up for opinionisation aswell.
If you dont have a web site then you are probably not selling stuff and then the best place to be would be here, in a community that appreciates your efforts for the hobby as a hobby not as a industry. my 2 cents

Small backyard operators like phil can only function if they get customers, posting a review on a site with no visitors is not much use to the vendor or any potential customers, we need to see the stuff and where to buy, if phil didnt fill the boards with his "independant views" no one would know he existed, let alone that he has a site to sell the stuff.

He could also pay RCG to advertise. But free advertising sure is more tempting. At least he will be getting some customers now. Negative advertising is still good advertising for him. maybe even better in this case , as now everyone knows he is a vendor.

Phils got mates! right! you buy his stuff, you tell us he was a great dealer! you tell us how your product is cause you want to share in the hobby,if it is bad then at least the dealer dont get slanged for the product itself. Word of mouth advertising is worth more per dollar than any other(except for chicks in bikinis with helis), for instance i go here http://www.wattsuprc.com and here http://www.modefosheli.com for tip top service.
the way i see it is Its not a right to be on rcgroups! its a privilage!.

"Small backyard operator" not quite mate!

He's the only person selling the Trex over here in W.a. Judging by the last indoor meet where there were no less than 8 trex owners present flying and how his first shipment of 450XL's were sold out the day they arrived I think word of mouth is doing Phil justice.

He also keeps all the TRex spares in stock both oem & upgrades.
He's always willing to take the time to explain the build and setup for new owners (recommending the right gear weather he sells it or not)

He manufactures wooden blades for the Twister Fp which are shipped Australia wide and he can't keep up with the demand for them.

The high number of return customers both local & interstate go to demonstrate that he's doing something right!

Fwiw: I only met Phil through my local club 4 weeks ago so no I don't have any ties to him or his business other than being one very happy customer of Microheliworkz.
