160a 14s

Hi All,
What are you using for these numbers? Has anyone had experience with Hobby Wing or Scorpion?

Ive been running several Hobbywing 130a and 160a. Both work great.
Only problem is the instructions are wrong. There are two servo type leads. The one with three wires is for programming. The one with only 2 wires (white and black) is the one that goes to the rx. Very frustrating. Finally googled it and found a thread where the guy had figured it out. Plugged in the correct lead and presto, it worked great. I also recommend the programming box. Worth the money.

Thanks for the hit Knife Liddle! Been trying to get the HW but everyone seems to be sold out. There's only one place I see that has it but it wouldn't get here late Nov to late Dec.
Thanks for the heads up on the instructions. Probably saved me a headache.
I plan on the programming box as I will have to change the numbers for the upgrade I'm looking at.

Nice unit. I see your pay scale for toys is better than mine.

That's precisely my second choice since I couldn't get much response on the Scorpion. If I can find the HW, it's 80.00 cheaper but if not, the YEP looks good.

Neu sells a APD 200 14s for $200. That's what is in my L-39 I just started building.

I have had many yep hv over the years. The early oned seemed to hold up well, but those I've bought in the last 3 or 4 years did not seem to last long. Most of them just stopped arming. So I've switched to the HW Funfly series now. So far so good.

Right now for SHV up to 22s I'm using the Flier Models 22s 400a. Its a beast.Aboutv$240 shipped I think.

That's a pretty good price on the APD from Neu.

There is a series called Vgood that appear to be the same as the APD. Probably a knock off. I'm using several of their 8s 120a and 6s 150a. They work well and are good bargains, but the Vgood series only goes to the 8sc120a. If they start producing the 14s or 20s types I'll have to try them.

A friend was telling me about those earlier. Everything looks good with specs and price. I think the price is competitive because it's pretty bare bones and you have to solder your own wiring, provide protective covering and figure a cooling system/heat sink. Everything else looks great.

Ended up going with the HW. That's actually what came with this jet purchase but when I upgrade to the 14S, I'm going to need this new ESC because the stock one is a 12S and isn't programmable.

There is a thread somewhere that shows how to unlock the stock hobby wing esc that comes with the HSD jets. Not sure if it works never tried myself.

If I stayed 12S, that's worth looking into. Good to know. Going 14S soon though.

As long as you have a little airflow over the esc I don't think you need to add anything to the APD. Mine will do 12 -14s and sits in front of the fan with nothing added except some shrink wrap.
I'm pulling 120 to 140 amps which is fine for this esc which can do 200 continuous and 300 burst.

I was so tempted to put it in the airflow duct but I need that to be clean. Thinking about a small, light fan on top.
Those are some good numbers on amps!
