I am planning on coming to this great event in 2021. Will make my room reservations in mid-December when my points will work at a few places in the Phoenix area. Looking forward to seeing an improved Peacemaker and repaired (electrical problem) Gigante. My video equipment is working again and looking forward to your hospitality and seeing old friends. There's a Motel 6 just south of Apache Junction that is OK. That would be the closest one at about 4 miles from the field.
If you look on Google Maps around 85283 Zip code, there are plenty of options, and in the morning you are looking at 20 to 30 minutes to get to the field. I live off the 60 and Rural and it's a 35 minute drive that is pretty easy. You want to look around the 60 expressway. |

AEF is still a go. We submitted our COVID-19 plan for events over 50 people to Maricopa County and it was approved.
We have our club auction this weekend that is the first event to follow the same rules. We will adjust based on the outcome of the processes we have but this is the basic plan: All participants will check in each day for a temp check (no touch temp gun on the forehead) and sign for compliance. If you have a high temp or display symptoms you will be asked to leave. You will receive a wristband-different color each day and you will have full access to event. We will limit crew and spectators in the pit area. I hate to do this as we have generally been liberal with "crew" badges but we need to keep it less crowded. Immediate family and up to one guest. You must wear a mask for this event. We will fly out of each individual flight station this year rather than all in one or 2. You will still need a spotter. We may allow mask to be off while flying so as to not fog up glasses but general rule is wear a mask at all times. Social distancing as much as possible. We will have sanitizing stations throughout the pit and spectator areas, please use them. Vendors will have one whole space between them and aisle will be wider than usual. Spectators will be distanced in the stands and no more standing along the pit/parking fence. We are not having the pizza party Saturday but still having Night fly. Pilot raffle is still on. As I always state-We make every attempt to have a prize for each pilot. We have been able to do this the last 5 years and I hope to continue. Its based on our vendors and sponsors participation. We do buy most of our extra raffle prizes from vendors onsite. We know some of these changes will not agree with everyone. We are a vendor to Maricopa County so we have to comply or we cannot have the event. As long as you are ok with these rules we welcome you and pretty sure we will still have a good time. If these rules are not your cup of tea, we totally understand and hope to see you in the future when we do not have to follow these rules. We did not open online registration yet as I want to make sure we have the rules finalized to post a link to after our club auction with the complete rules. I don't want the " I didn't know " crowd showing up complaining. Comments and questions are welcome but please, do not make this a political forum. We are just trying to keep one of the best R/C events in the nation still going as best we can. Shannon Gallagher Contest Director Arizona Electric Festival |
