The tank still stops moving quite quickly when I release the sticks, even without a brake; I don't really notice any difference from the stock response.

Latest Repair and Hull Replacement
My grandson took his tank for a weekend holiday to the beach, and when we tried to run it when he brought it back it wouldn't go forward or backward. Not a gearbox problem - just no action at all. So I opened it up and examined the connection to the main (forward/backward) motor. Connections seemed OK, but then I saw that there was play in one of the pins that go through the main board and enable the motor plug to be connected. I looked at the bottom of the board and saw that the solder joint was dry. It must have made a good enough connection, despite the dry joint, for the tank to have done a number of runs before the last little bit of solder cracked and the problem became apparent. I reached for my trusty soldering iron and had it fixed in no time. Pictures show the new bright solder on the joint, and the other side of the board to show which plug was affected. Arrows show the exact location of the problem. Sorry the focus is poor - the phone couldn't really focus close enough.
If it happened on this board, it could happen on others, so if you have that symptom it's worth a look. I have two of the tanks myself, the original BG review one that the early part of this thread is about, and another for spares. The problems I have had keeping everything going are described earlier in this thread. The plastic pins on the rear set of sprung wheels have broken and had to be repaired a number of times, so I had also bought a spare hull, in a different colour because that is all Banggood has. With the latest pin breakage I decided that I would transfer all the wheels etc. over to the new hull instead of repairing the pin. There are OVER FORTY SCREWS to remove and then put back! It's not difficult, but very tedious. All fixed and working again. I don't mind the two-tone look. Note that the spare hull didn't come with a battery hatch cover. It also doesn't have the partition in the battery compartment that the original had, but that's good for me because I had to remove the partition anyway to fit in the 2200mAh 2S lipos I'm using. I also had to enlarge the hole for the battery plug to accommodate the XT60 plugs I'm now using. I had had to do that on the original anyway. |

This was in reference to whether the SG 1203 and the Eachine EAT06 main board are the same except for the battery plug, and so each would work with the other's controller. I have found many vendors selling the SG 1203 board on Aliexpress, and I note that the description on the board XW-XWTank-RX is exactly the same as on my EAT06 board. So I feel pretty confident they are compatible. This is important for EAT06 owners, as there doesn't seem to be any source of the EAT06 board, not that I can find, anyway.

Fixing post on hull - 3D printed part repair
Back in post #64 I reported on the problem of the rear posts that support the sprung rear wheels breaking off when the tank is driven over obstacles very hard. A friend who also has one of the tanks has produced a 3D printed part to fix this problem. I fitted one today. Haven't tested it yet, because the tank needs other work, but this fix looks promising, and you don't have to open the tank to do it. Photos show how it works.

Best version yet... also been a while since I drove a stock one of these but I swear it drives smoother for turning than the others I had?

SG1203 and EAT06 boards definitely compatible
Back at #126 and earlier I wondered whether the boards were really identical apart from the battery connectors, and whether they would each bind with the other's transmitter. Reptileman was pretty sure they do. I can now definitely confirm that they do. An SG1203 board arrived today, and all I had to do was unsolder the battery wires from the board and solder the battery connector from the EAT06 board that failed to it. Now it binds just like the original.

My pleasure - maybe we should have a tank for retrieving aircraft at indoors when we just cannot find the energy to stand up from our comfy chairs

Cheapest yet in Banggood Australian warehouse
Just noticed this tank is now only $AUD49.87 with free postage from the Australian warehouse. Almost the cheapest I've ever seen it, except for $AUD49.37 earlier in this thread.
