Anyone seen a JR Models JR 70 CAP-232 ARF?

Has anyone seen this model, or know anything more about it than what's on the site? Same manufacturer as the Diablotin/Diabolic, etc. so I imagine the quality is there... 55" wingspan, but weight at 2-2.2kg (almost 5lbs) on 10-12 cells? Doesn't sound right...

Sean,
I think your suspicions are well founded. I don't think it will fly like a CAP 232 on 10-12 cells. This plane is about the same size as the one a fellow named Steve Clausen (sp?) flew at the 2000 MWE in San Diego. It is featured on the Radio Carbon Art video depicting the show. Steve flew his very agressively and it flew just like a CAP 232 should. He was using an Aveox F16 motor and 17 2400 SCR cells turning a 14x8 prop. Steve was flying a converted Kyosho 40 size CAP 232. I believe that is the sort of combo needed to fly JR's CAP 232 as well.

Hi Ed,

I just watched the video of that CAP 232 at MWE yesterday - looked like a really nice flyer! I guess what I'm interested in is knowing whether this ship has been designed specifically for electric use, with a corresponding weight-advantage over a gas conversion. I've been intrigued by the Modeltech Extra 300 ARF as a conversion subject, but it would be nice to find an e-specific ship (a CAP or Extra ARF) where you don't have to fight to keep the wing-loading down like with the conversions.

Sean,

The JR CAP 232 is a Gas/Electric ARF. It is basically a lightly built "gas" kit than can be electrocuted. If you look at the specifications, they show a gas motor recommendation.....that is the dead give-away that it is not a dedicated electric kit.
If you are looking for a dedicated electric model based loosely on CAP 232 lines, try the Diablotin Super Mini with the 232 cowl option. http://espritmodel.com/
