Success!
Well, I got another stellar day inbetween the rain. So I went out for a second attempt at testing the V2 Sparrow and it went super well, heres the video.
No camera lady today so all still footage. Doesn't do any justice to the plane or the beautiful weather but you get the idea. Nice straight launches, good launch height, good energy retention, slow flight, fast flight, susceptible to light lift. I am very pleased with it and cant wait to improve on it more. I have a composite version in the works, will be finished by next week. It has a slightly different planform and control surface setup. Will sneak in a pic tonight. |

Wow, that's lovely! And great flying too.
There must be a little thermal or slope lift just ahead of you -- it doesn't seem to want to come down. Following along for the composite version. |

I'm watching with great interest as well! Your builds and videos are really well done, so I'm sure a composite version will be stellar!
Btw, I might have missed it, but where did the final weight of the V2 end up? It looks like it really performs well at thermalling, and I'm trying to get a ballpark wing loading for my 28" PW1211 build. Right now I have the wing cores joined and partially painted, but at 52 g, I think I may already be overweight. Maybe some lightening holes like those on the V1 would help? Thanks mate. Yeah there was a tiny breeze and some sweet thermal pockets, perfect slermal weather! Sometimes it would stay up 4+ minutes, others it would drop like a rock in the downdraft haha. Was an absolute pleasure to swing around and experiment with the characteristics of the design. |

Ah yes I forgot to say! It was approx 155grams, but I will have to recheck as I messed with the CG a bit recently. As for weight. Don't worry at all. The PW 1211 and PW75 like a bit of weight as they like to move fast. They launch higher when heavier too so anywhere between 120-200 grams will still fly wonderfully for a 28" (I think!) The lightening holes where for the pw75 as it was a much chunkier foil and that actually loved the weight which helped it to penetrate and find that lift. The new v1(Chubbee) doesnt have them as I built it a little lighter and am not fussed about it being anywhere between 160-190 g at 32" Is that 52g with the elevons or without? It looks good to me from the images! Just build, test, adjust make sure to post your flight here I'd love to see it. |

Glass wing version
As promised heres a sneak at the glassed version.
A quick look at the specs and design. Wingspan 900mm Root chord 280mm Tip chord 155mm Sweep 140mm Airfoil PW1211 Estimated flying weight 220 - 240g Dihedral 45mm Glass/carbon layup. Turned out pretty well. Few mistakes made and learnt a lot. Will build the next a lot more precise, use more carbon and wont mark/dent the wing like I have slightly here. Will hopefully get it out for a test fly next week. Photos aren't the best but you get the idea. |

That composite wing looks slick. Can't have too much carbon! |

That's not too bad, but you might need a bit of lead in the nose to accommodate that! Mine were 30g each with the carbon spars and 35 with elevons. I think laminating film is worth a shot, I'd be interested to see the performance

Composite version is all bonded nicely, just needs the radio install and we are good to go!
Will set up the new Chubbee tomorrow too as hopefully take it out for a maiden flight! |

Hey a filos, yeah I forgot to put them in I think?
Wingspan - 860mm Root chord - 280mm Tip chord - 150mm Sweep - 140mm Airfoil - PW1211 Flying weight - 255g She's a little on the heavy side, but who doesn't like a bit of speed =D |
