Or the scream of a Penn International as a tuna tries to spool the reel after the outrigger snaps back.BTW, rod safety line clipped to the boat; not the angler. Looks REALLY bad on the Captain’s resume if the fish overboards the fisher person.

Our family times when staying on the boat for a week in Menemsha. Two sons laughing with Chic the Harbor Master, irascible to strangers, but a good friend to those who knew him. BTW, Chic was a grizzled, scarred, former fisherman but also a museum quality bird carver.
Our boys fishing for squid off the Texaco dock at night. Whoa; memories from over thirty years ago. |

a once in a lifetime sound
In 1975, my future wife and I spent a couple of days at Mystic CT...you know the seaquarium, and the Seaport. So there we were standing at the Joseph Conrad when a cannon goes off (totally private and not connected to the seaport) and someone starts playing Amazing Grace the bagpipes ...It was the Unicorn (from the movies-a restored period square rigger) motoring up the river, making a 180 and docking with the visitor transient boats! That was the coolest thing I ever heard -Amazing Grace on the pipes from the bow of an operational square rigger in the morning mist!
-an employee of the Seaport says to us-"well its not everyday that you see a square rigger come up the river, not even at Mystic Seaport!" |

The gentle lapping of the waves washing up on the beach or shore line.
For CG Bob the engine sounds were music to your ears and when it went of line when it should not have is when it got your attention, then you could tell who the real engineers were as to who showed up. |
