Decals keep coming off, of my planes, is there a trick?

Whats the trick to keep them on?
All my foam planes loose the decals due to hand contact when launching or repairing, is there a way to avoid this and have the decals stay.?

1. Wipe area under decal with alcohol - let dry for several hours. Apply decal and iron on.

2. Spray a mist coat of 3M77 or similar spray adhesive (kind without acetone in it) on the area where the decal goes. Apply decal before or after adhesive dries.

These are water decals into foam planes.

Will wiping area with Alcohol damage the foam or paint?

Always test solvents or cleaners in a spot that is not conspicuous.

I thought a denatured alcohol cleaning would allow the tape hinges to get a better grip on a new kit. Tested this idea on a scrap piece of the kit first... and it took the paint off of the Depron.

Test first.....

The only fix for protecting waterslide decals on a foam model is to add some sort of water based clear that will not harm the decals, ot the foam.

Tamiya clear acrylic is safe for both.

Plastic model guys use clear Future floor wax over their decals and as a gloss clearcoat for certain plastic models, on occasion. It will not harm them or the foam, so that might be worth a try. It is easy to airbrush.

Potensky recommends a 50/50 water/Canopy Glue mixture spread over the EPP surface where the decal is to go. I will let you know how well it works in a few months (I just applied the decal a couple of weeks ago).

I use the 50/50 water-WBP mix from my fiberglassing can (premixed) instead of water to release the decal from the backing. I warm it up first. Havent had any come off yet...and I crash ALOT..lol
(WBP = water based polyeurathane)
