New Kite-e Plane

Had a little spare time so I whipped up this Plane. I plan on putting a Optio-s or Nikon 3700 on it and see how it does for AP work.
It flu right off the building board and only had to move the battery 1/2"
Heres some data on it.
65” Wing Span
1587 Sq In = 11.02 Sq Ft
Wing Loading at 26 oz AUW with 3 cell TP 2100 battery is 2.35 oz sq ft

You can see a video of it during it's test flights
Please right click and save as. Video is 5 Meg

Very cool. Could you make it a pusher? That would allow for great forward-shooting video and camera.

Did you just come up with the demensions yourself, or is there a template of some sort somewhere?

Looks like you could rig up the sail and mast to just bolt right on a stock plane, I cant tell if that is what you did or not.

Very nice. How much up incidence do you put on the wing. Are you using any wing tilting or just relying on the elevator and rudder. Any drawings or dimensions available? I would like to build one for AP work as well.

Now this should be interesting!

Can't wait to see how you mount the camera, this is looking good for short-field work.

Side-looking with tilt? (Downlink, too?)

Yes you could make it a pusher. It will fit right on a stock Slowstick and you can go fly it.

Hi
The incidence is 10 deg. No wing tilt. Drawings are in head.

Soil Penetration Tester
Very nice design Roger. Looks really stable too. Enjoyed the video. Also just watched the Airboat ride video. Looks like a lot of fun. Kept waiting for something to drop into the boat from the overhanging trees.

Was nice to see you and Gene today at the hobby shop. Always look forward to seeing your latest creations. Keep the pictures and vids coming.

See ya,
Rick

Looks great.
With that type of wing area you could put a 26 oz camera on it and still have a floaty plane.

Smooth flying rogallo! Very cool! I had to watch it several times to see if your neighbor (working on his driveway?) was totally oblivious to that flight....sure looked like he was to me.....maybe he's used to you buzzing flying machines past him by now??

Does the APC "E" prop make a difference over the slow fly version? I thought the "E" was more for speed.

I use the APC E prop on my SS with my PJS800 and I feel that prop performs better than the slow flyer props. It's a good design and does not flex much at all.

Rick, good to meet you today also. Soil penetration...does that mean you determine how far your plane will bury it's self in the ground before you do it?

On a side note, a rogallo wing may really work well in tight locations, you should be able to decend real steep with one I would guess to land in short places.

That looks great! I have been wanting one of these. I hope that you will share with us how to build it. Could you do a short build thread on it? I bet we would see more of these if you did. Looks like a very smooth flyer.

Hi
Ron
Heres a few pics of the wing. If you need more let me know.

The tower is 1/8” light ply but the pcs on the bottom that the nylon ties hold down is reg plywood. The leading edge of the tower is balsa
The wing connector is 1/16 plywood
Main spar is ¼” OD carbon tube
Side spars 3/16” carbon tube
Cross brace 3/16” carbon tube
Wing is nylon from the fabric store glued on with contact cement.
Got to give the wife a little credit as she let me use her pinking scissors and her pinking rotary cutting tool.

One more thing. It's colored bar-stool red

Heres the link to the tail feathers. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328949
