Laughing Whale New England Steam Launch
Does Anybody have the plans for the Laughing Whale New England Steam Launch Kit #113? I recently purchased a already built model of this design and I like the looks of this model so much that I want to scale it up to a larger version for a future build. The easiest way to do this is if I have a printed plan to go off of rather than reverse engineering the boat.
Thanks in advance, Scott B |

Here are two PDFs that I got from one of the other posts or forums I can't remember which?
Hope they work. Gerald. |

You'll need to rename the CAD file to .dxf. With this you can laser cut the parts (if that is your thing?).

Hi,
I downloaded the plan of this ship, because I have been thinking about building a nice steamship for a long time. I already have a couple of steamships already built. I have one beautiful single-cylinder double-acting engine, which I would very much like to use in this boat .. But I would like to ask how to swim the boat on the right when reversing, because the sloping rear part discourages me from building the hull. So that the ship does not try to drown while reversing I would adjust the plan to a length of about 75 cm. greet from Slovakia Richard |

Hey Richard,
Lovely engine, is it fabricated or castings? Got any pictures of construction? I see you have reversing but does it self start? The boat is a little small in my opinion at 51cm but a 75 or 90cm version would be lovely. The original did have reversing and so I don't think it would be an issue on a bigger model. I don't think that the reversing was ever intended to be fast but the original kitchen rudder would have been more of a brake that would allow 'slow' reversing. Please post photos here if you do build one as there has been quite a lot of interest (I know of two others looking to build). Cheers, |

Hi Belli.
I originally built two engines according to the French plan JLS 13-2. While machining the cylinder base, I broke one piece. So I also built one double cylinder and one single cylinder. This single cylinder starts itself in 75% of cases. So I will have the support of starting the motor with an electric motor. I have a few photos, I look in the phone and publish them later. Now at least photos of my fleet Richard |

Those are some good looking boats!
Looking at the plans for the engine, the 'standards' were fabricated from sheet metal best I can tell and then welded together. Is this how you made them? I am busy with my first boat, called Rose by Basil Harley. I have captured the design in CAD and used the files for laser cutting the parts. I will probably start a thread here when it is a bit further along as I have a habit of starting things and not finishing them. I can post the CAD here if it is useful to you. |

Hi Belli,
yes it is according to the plan which is in the appendix. I have a small CNC at home, I cut all the parts and soldered them with silver. I have a couple of meetings with friends who build ships like me. Then end the season and you need to come up with a plan for the winter. Unfortunately, there is also a corona in our country and it is better to stay at home than to risk your health. If I have something built, I will also set up a thread. I decide which wood to use. Whether the boat will be wooden or I will use paint. Richard |

I see now that I screwed up! I posted the .pdf twice, I guess I was high at the time.
Here's the CAD for the NESL, the .dxf is stored as .pdf coz RCG won't allow any other way. Just rename it to .dxf. I'll make a new thread for Rose. I even have a few photos... |

Hi everybody,
I played in my workshop yesterday. The first two ribs made. When I make more parts, I will start my the thread My plan has been reduced to 75% of its original size Greet from Slovakia Richard |
