Aluminum landing hook requires 1/2" servo travel to deploy. no load on servo when deployed, or in use, stopped 11 lb plane just fine . Hook extends 1.3" when deployed 25.00 shipped

wow. tell me more about this. is stopping a problem where you fly? Or is it a spot landing competition thing? Ive used skegs but none of those planes were 11lbs.

Landing Hook

Long Ago and Far Far Away---- Actually back in the 70's 80's & 90's, XC ( Cross Country ) flying was a " thing " . First thing you have to realize is that most sailplane classes right up till today, are basically governed by FAI rules. The weight limit for most classes is 5 kg ( 176 oz ) . Most guys don't fly that heavy BUT you can. Now back to XC , we built the planes right up to the limit ( weight wise ) and arround 1500 to 1600 sq in , and 12 to 13 ft spans . To fly fast you had no flaps or ailerons ( just rud & elev ) a clean wing with a fast airfoil ( SD6060 , E374 etc ) that made landing VERY exciting at times. Put the nose down a little and you had 11lbs of plane coming at you at 50 to 70 mph with no way to slow down and sometimes less than ideal landing spots ( fields , roads, ditch edges ) enter the retractable skegg. It would have been too dangerous to have a fixed skegg , and the retractable wasn't used unless necessary, but still nice to have if needed.
We flew in all the races back then COGG---Dash for Cash, Mid South Soaring Championship, LSF Nats, CASA --- Sugarloaf Classic, SOAR --- Great Race, and others. They're all gone now, just memories, I still have my last plane ( Bob Sealy Catalina with a 6060 wing )but on the rare occasion when I fly it , I have a good landing area Mike Wade AMA L1002

Amazing, now that’s a little modeling history right there. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Mike!
