test airframe 3d printed P-180

I happen to notice this Avanti the other day in the 3d aircraft print lists and had my printer print one to try and play test pilot . I t just arrived last Friday and seems to pretty well thought out for a porotype test plane. My only mods will be a fixed gear set up with steerable nose assembly , the real plane has a front wing flap and main wing flaps . this has none. if I can keep it light I believe it may be ok but envision enlarging it to 1400mm with flaps front and rear and possibly retracts . the C/G from what I have seen on other rc Avantis is about 3 in in front of the main wing. Power will be what the designer listed,, on a 2200 3s to test, possibly a 2200 4s . will post more pictures later in the week . Thiis a high performance private aircraft that is very loud and fast , hope to see more people print more and help development to proceed to a perfected rc flying design that doesn't look like many other aircraft we see daily .

Looks very nice. A shame it has no retracts though. Upscaled with retracts would be fantastic.

Hi All,

I designed this Avanti, I am also keen to add in some retracts and flaps, I first wanted to see if the build concept worked before I added them in.

There is a lot of interest in the aircraft though so I will order some retracts see what I can come up with.

I'll send out any updated .STL's with flaps and retracts etc, to those who have already bought the experimental version from www.rc3dprint.com.

Happy Flying!

To make the retracts reasonable - the size of the Avanti would be beyond printer capability. Just notice how small/short the retracts are.

What do you mean? Do you mean to be scale the Avanti would have to be huge?

Thanks John for the design Larger at 1400 to 1600 I would guess would be better for retracts ,off the shelf hopefully ,

Yes - or make the retracts really small. In current scale they are like 3cm long? To make the wheels 70mm diameter the fuse (w/o fin) would have to be 1400mm long (and approximately 1500mm span - if made to scale). In this scale will the fuse fit on a normal 200x200 printer? Or would you need to go to 250x250 printer? Or split the fuselage in half? Maybe it will not be that bad. Just asking In my design I had to split the fuse in half - because it was 300mm wide. So it was printable only on 310x310 printers.

It could be 1500 to 1600 same relative size as the FL P38 . that should be large enough ?

Great . I am thinking enlarging one to 1500 and try to see if any off the shelf rear retracts will be correct . I suggested to the designer John to design a b version wing with flaps on the main wing section next to the aileron side of the nacelle and front wing as a option we hope. camber control is a good option

Very cool. there's a full scale one that flys around here. It makes a very distintive sound. Instantly recognizable just from the sound.

With out a doubt the nosiest Jet prop you will hear coming from a mile away for sure , Good to see some one thought out side the boring design box as we see typically at most airports
