Fastest FPV in the World! 502kmh/312mph

Here is a pretty amazing video!!

Splash

Jet Turbine powered FPV plane reaching 312mph on it's maiden.

From OMEGOOLIEBIRD

The engine cut out from suspected fuel starvation due to a fuel pipe being pushed flat by the air pressure. The main tank was almost empty, but the air/trap/bubble tank was still full when it landed. This problem will be solved and we will try again, expecting somewhere closer to 550kmh.

  • Airframe: Vasa Fusion
  • Engine: Lambert Kolibri T50

Thanks to Joe Harvey for the great help on the maiden and this awesome edit / RiVR.uk !

That sure showed the previous world record holder "Rupert" and his Strix Goblin.

Got the joke, but actually the previous record was with the same plane at 265mph but with a
motor/prop on it instead of the jet. His Goblin record was about 9mph slower.

stunning. This has got to be the first FPVer with jet turbine on board!

wow just the engine is like $3kusd

Followed some of the conversations on the UK FPV thread about this. He was very discouraged for a long time with setbacks and regulatory issues but hard work and perseverance won out in the end for a well deserved record.

Ya I wondered, given UK's rather draconian regs.

That was awesome, but it was august last year I wonder if he's beat it already. Nevermind.

Im seeing this a lot and in the US too . Turbines are like nuclear bombs when they go in . Thats real great for our hobby to be stuffing these with FPV and flying outside line of sight over others property . Way to go why dont you blow it for all of us

How is this going to "blow it for all of us"

RID cause!

Here we go again. We will all pay for this kind of activity. I hope the poster is pleased with himself and his toys and the publicity. Did you put it in all the other media as well so everyone can see what our hobby is like? ...thanks...

Like when DJI put out the first rtf quad and sent us spiraling down this FAA nightmare? It's too late to "pay for this kind of activity" the toll has been taken. This hobby probably won't exist in any legal form in another 10 years. Enjoy it while you can but don't try to kill other peoples enjoyment. Just move to another forum like the "Model Aircraft & Drone Advocacy" one where all the hand wringers hang out.

I wouldn't worry about this until someone does this in the USA

Then we have a problem here in the states. Unfortunately that record will probably inspire someone in the US to do something dumb, it never fails.

Good thing no LoS pilot has ever lost control of their aircraft.
Good thing no LoS pilot has taken a turbine aircraft up to equivalent speeds.
Clearly, now that someone has finally flown a fast FPV piloted
aircraft in a remote location, the sky is literally falling.

think about it: who has better control over the aircraft, the person looking up at it from the ground, or the person in the pilot seat? Do we have LOS remote pilots bringing in airliners at international airports anywhere?

Bottom line is this was a safer flight than ANY high speed LoS turbine flight ever made. Ideally all RC turbine aircraft should have FPV as mandatory equipment for piloting them, if you are at all concerned about the safety of them. Or just ban all turbine models because, yes, they are lethal missiles, every one of them. Take a look at the kind of intuitive control and awareness of trajectory that FPV lends to the pilot compared to the LoS pilots I see who can't fly within 100 feet of a tree without risk of hitting it. At our flying field we'd have a LoS pilot crash a model in neighbour's properties once a month, while it never happened once with FPV piloted aircraft because the FPV pilot could see their relative location and the trees in front of the model.

The upside for the RC hobby is FPVers are on the vanguard of miniaturizing their aircraft, making them the safest RC aircraft in the history of model aviation. Flying aircraft at sub250g is a huge thing in FPV flying today and really where anyone who has difficulty accessing flying space should be going - and the aviation regulators agree with this approach. (But they're not going 300mph lol. 100mph, yes, some). So we have hundreds of thousands of FPVers causing no trouble flying sub250g, and we have 1 person who flew a FPV turbine 1 time in 1 country, in an empty rural well controlled area and you think that is a problem?

as before, the answer is still no. these are not the drones you are looking for

also the $3k price pretty much eliminates the risk that this becomes popular
