You definetly want to apply the decals last! Then if needed, give them a light clear coat for protection.

Hey F86_sabre that's great. Would you be able to post the vector version in the Fat Albert thread?

i may have missed it on a previous page but here are blood chits from the flying tigers.

Decals

It really amazes my how some guys will buy a $79 airplane kit, then spend another $200 to $300 more for all the goodies to make it an awesome plane, then scrounge around for some pixelated raster images to run thru a cheap printer on decal media, then apply them to the plane, which is subject to extreme heat, humidity and cold, then overspray them to keep the decals from smearing, but cant fork out $30 to $40 more to have someone with experience create them.

I gotta tell ya, its kind of funny. I saw a pilot with an awesome ARF that was built up and had a nice covering job, poor decals couldnt handle all the sagging that the heat put on the plane, cant put the sealing iron or heat gun on it now!

You cant just download a text font and think you will create what you see in the picture, alot of the aircraft numbers and insignias where sprayed using templates, or touched up by hand! If you want the decals to look like the picture, you need to scan it, scale it, overdraw it, colorize it, then process it using real equipment.

Ive helped alot of modelers get the results they need, at a near break even charge, but I will say you wont get quality graphics for free, anyone can download fuzzy raster pictures

The image you see was line traced (overdrawn) and not a font...

RAF Oil pressure gage

Attached is a photo of a WWII vintage British Mark XIE oil pressure gage, used in everything from Tiger Moths to Lancasters, as far as I know! Actual size is 2-1/2 inches, by 1-1/4 inches, and stands proud of the instrument panel by 3/4 inch, as shown by the side view. I hope someone can use it.

Here are a few F-18 decals off a Rampager. I would do you a full set but a busy work schedule and a trip to Oz mean I have no time at the moment. If you don't need them in a hurry I am back mid August

regards

Robert
