One thing I absolutely can't do is violate trust. It took too log to earn it and that's the way it should be.
The closest thing I can come to giving you an exact date is just be ready. Believe me, no one on the planet is more excited about this plane than Doc Austin. A great bonus of flying this plane for over a decade is I have a big supply of spares. I've got the landing gear ready to bolt on, pushrods finished with servo arms attached, ESC and BEC soldered up, tail wheel assembly finished with flat spots ground where the grub nuts sit, and control surface sealing material cut and folded. TX and Gyro is pre-programmed, and servo extensions heat shrunk. I've got everything done that can possibly be done without actually having the pane in hand. I like to get the piddy time consuming stuff out of the way so I can concentrate on getting the critical things like stab and hinging perfect. We know we are getting the self aligning stab, stab and I hope the cowling will be pre-mounted like it is on the Gamebird. Outside of jamming the stab forward and gluing it, and hinging, everything else simply bolts on. If you screw it up, unbolt and start over. I don't know if I would like a higher level of prefabrication or not. I like to take pride in my work, but there's not of that work left any more. Still, this will make it really easy on the new guys who don't yet know how to do a lot of things like get the stab straight or cowl spacing right. This plane will be critical for the new guys, so I'm ok with it being easy to put together and get the most out f it. |

On my Gamebird the cowl was pre mounted and the canopy fit so tight I had to shim the upper two holes of the cowl to flex it into a position that I could even get the canopy on. Plus it has scratched the heck out of the canopy now because it still fits so tight.

If your motor is too short or long you can push the blind nuts out and plug the holes with dowels, line the cowl up and redrill through the existing holes in the cowl. I'm not even sure if the plane will come that way. It's just a guess based off what the Gamebird looked like. Quote:

Also, to the best of my knowledge, the Sunny Sky X2820 is almost exactly the same length as the stock Torque 2814. Maybe someone could confirm this. The pick below shows the Sunny Sky X2820. (I have checked the V3 and it is the same BTW.) Edit: Someone did PM me and confirmed that they are the same length. I'm guessing that Jhax01 was talking about the Sunny Sky 3120 which I have no experience with. |

The Sunnysky 3120 is the same length and foot print and will fit anywhere a 2820 will fit. I’m just trying a 3120-880 with a 13x4 prop and it’s a beast, could easily bump up to a 13x6.5 but for me I haven’t seen a need. Just shy of 900 watts and it’s not even breathing hard. The 2820 is an excellent motor but the 3120 is an animal. If you are a power lover you’d love this thing.

Ok weird, I could've sworn I read somewhere that it was slightly longer. I have a 2820 in my 48 MXS and a 3120 in my 48 Edge and the spinner gap on both is a fairly big with maybe a 1-2mm of cowl overlap. :-/ Anywho, yeah the 3120 is awesome, I really like the 760kv with a 13x6.5

The cowl on the 48" Edge is very short (too short in my opinion). I'm guessing that it wasn't lengthened when the "stock" 48" motor changed from the Omega 130 to the current Torque 2814. The 48" Laser cowl is just fine, however. Don't know about the others.
Based on what you are saying, it sounds like the X3120 isn't any longer than the X2920 or the stock motor. |

Looking forward to more details on this plane subscribed!
I recently sold my V1 Extra Red preparing for our move back to Tampa, FL. It allowed me to avoid moving it, and gave me an excuse to buy something new! I really hope they keep the $189 price point! Also sold my 60" Extra Red and I'm looking at the V2 Extra or MXS. |
