2 1/2" wheels also flying off of grass.

Others have answered but I'll throw in my $.02. I fly off grass exclusively and other than some grass stains on the wheel pants they do just fine. A little bit of drag on take off but manageable.

I love them both really. The 52" has better stability in the wind, of course, and is a joy to fly all around. The 48", however, rotates so fast and easily around the wing tube it's scary, lol. Part of this is my setup, I'm only getting around 58 degrees or so of elevator on the 52" at the moment whereas the 48" is pulling 75/80-ish. I'm using aluminum arms on the 52" and shortened the arm to the second hole instead of lowering the servo. I may get out the G10 arm to see if it gains anything. Anyway, if I could only have one it would be the 52", but I am fortunate enough to not have to choose.

Well, its been almost a year since this plane was informally announced and its much anticipated arrival has been described as "soon" so many times I don't remember. Its finally looking like it really will be soon and I am ready and waiting to place my order. It will be the white/blue/orange scheme in deference to my old eyes, but I really think the "sunrise" scheme is awesome.

I've wanted to get this and build it as an ultimate 3S performer. Two weeks ago redirected those funds towards the Stevens G480. Sorry, but with the stay home environment, I need a project now. Maybe next lockdown.

Please, God forbid. This one has been enough.
Granted, I'm going crazy wanting something to build too. Been lusting for this plane for so long, and now on top of that we really need it. Going to be sad to see the old V1 fly off into the sunset, but we're going to get a better airplane out of it. Hard to imagine as good as this plane has always been, but time moves on. The latest construction methods are going to give us a stiffer, stronger plane that's going to fly better, stay tighter and last longer. The V1 is still a pretty stout old girl, but the new V2 mixed composites are going to make her even better. I've crashed a few 52" V2s with surprisingly little damage, and I expect the new Extra will be much the same kind of tough. Mostly I'm delighted the 48" Extra will apparently be around for awhile still. For over a decade this has been my favorite all around plane, rivaled only by the 47" Extra SHP for small plane convenience and performance. Not sure how many of them are coming, or when there will be more, so now would be an extremely bad time to wait. If I hear anything about availability, you guys will know about it 30 seconds later. Of course, I'll have one right away, and probably a second once everyone has had a chance to get theirs. As has become custom as of late. I'll run a blog page with just the kit pictures, followed shortly by a build and fly report with lots of set up and glamor shots, and of course video. My guess is this will probably be the last V1 video. Might do one more this week at sunset to give her an appropriate send off.
