Dualsky VR Pro voltage regulator

The VR Pro is a linear voltage regulator designed to regulate 2S LiPo voltage to selectable servo voltages. The Duo version adds dual battery inputs.

The manual is a little cryptic, thus this blog post.

The VR Pro has 2 main functions.

First it is a voltage regulator (with adjustable output voltage) so that you can power servos rated at 5 or 6V using a 2S LiPo, which is around 8.4V fully charged.

Second, it provides a much higher current pathway to the servo outputs than a standard receiver can handle.

If it's the VR Pro Duo, then it has the additional function of being able to use 2 independent power sources and automatically use the higher voltage source, providing some redundancy against battery failure. Note that you don't have to use 2 batteries with the Duo.

Putting the key functions together, the VR Pro (Duo) provides (redundant) power to the receiver and servos, and can provide a high current output independent of the receiver power bus to up to 4 servos.

The VR Pro should have been supplied with 4 male to male servo leads.

Choose the 4 highest load or most important channels and use the male to male leads connect each of these to one of the receiver ports on the VR Pro. For example, connect the receiver rudder channel to Receiver port 1 on the VR Pro, elevator to port 2 and so on. The channel to port numbers assignment is arbitrary and doesn't matter, because the servo leads for the 4 functions are connected to the matching Servos ports on the VR Pro. So using the example above, plug the rudder servo into Servos port 1, elevator servo into Servos 2 and so on.

Note that the receiver will be powered by all of the male to male leads connected between the receiver channels and the VR Pro Receiver ports.

Additional servos may be plugged into other channels on the receiver in the conventional way. They will be subject to the normal current limit of the receiver's power bus - of the order of 5 amps, but if its the Duo, they will have the benefit of being powered by a redundant source.

See the photo in the link above. 4 receiver channels are connected to the VR Pro, with 4 servos plugged into the VR Pro. An additional 2 servos are plugged direct into the receiver.

Can one of those receiver ports be used to power the ignition?

From a purely power perspective I can't see why not. Gas ignition only draws about 1A.

Putting the ignition in the same power circuit as the receiver or using the same power source is generally not recommended. That said I flew a gas model with no problems using a Castle BEC Pro that has 2 power outputs, using one to power the Rx and the other to power the ignition.

Personally I think giving one of those high current VR Pro ports to the ignition is not worth it
