Wow! The responses while I was gone are just great!

giegerr- the pics in post 138 are really nice. It looks like a flyer to me!
Yes, more right thrust should do the trick. Angle that motor a little more to the right.

chucker-Thank you! Glad it flew well. The plane is a good floater, and
will even thermal when I remember to stop tearing across the sky with it.
And watch out for those trees, they love tasty little foamies.

secretagentman- Well, it looks like you jumped in with both wings aflappin’!
Congrats on the successful flights! Nothing better than soloing with your
own homemade plane. Very satisfying. Great pictures too.

Daddy-O, I’m flattered that you would consider the “STC” good enough
to make it a present for your son. Great graphics. Good job on flying it,
especially with the wind pushing you around. Glad you didn’t lose your motor!
I’ve done that before, motor wires really wind up tight when that happens!
Your son will be a happy camper on Friday. Thanks for the kind words.

9lives1968- The second one was the charm, eh? Sounds like a winner with
your changes. It’s now a “bad to the bone” barnstormer! Cool that you share
it with others using the buddybox. It is a positive hobby to get people into.

Firstshirt- Your welcome. Glad it made your life a little easier. The motor
set up you mentioned might fly OK, but will be more for lazy circle flying.
You need thrust with a higher gear ratio to get aerobatic. But that’s the
beauty of the plane, it will fly with just about anything you put on it. Some
better then others, of course. Check back through the thread here and see
what everyone else is using and go with what your wallet can afford.
Try the GWS350 with D gear 6.6:1, a 8-10 inch prop, a 2 or 3 cell Lipo
battery 350-1500 ma. Or try the GWS IPS Dual motor with the same setup.
Or try a brushless motor, be it a Fiego in the IPS, or a CDROM. Many
options available.

Thanks again for all the nice compliments everyone!

Good news! My wife told me yesterday that she likes it so much that she wants one. I guess I'll be making posterboard templates for this plane and will begin cutting them out with the hot wire cutter. Thanks again Waterdog!

Thanks for the plans. I love this airplane. It can fly slow or very fast!

Here is my setup:

Motor: one 22.7mm GB stator, 3x28ga, 12T, Wye, 5x5x2 N45 mags.
Battery1: 720maH 11.1v Lipo / Battery2: 340maH 11.1v Lipo
ESC: CC Pheonix 10
Prop: 7x4

Due to the low discharge rate of battery1, I used it for general slow, relaxing, and extended time flights.

For turbo-charged flights, I used the 340mah battery which has the 20c discharge rate! This configuration has unlimited vertical. It is fun to see this airplane fly very fast. Wish I can share video but I have no video cam. Anyone volunteer?

Here are some current pictures of my 2nd scratch built airplane.

No, I think I recognize that green stuff! That is probably from the leaves of one of those tree eating planes. It looks like you got some payback! Way to go rLu!

Thanks guys for the kind words. I wish I have a video cam and someone to record a small video for me. This thing is a rocket going vertical!

rLu- any friends who might have a video camera? Love to see that fly with the cdrom motor you have on it. 28 gauge triple wire? Looks real good!
Nice build job. Can't be a barnstormer without some getting some barn on the prop! Must have been a green barn. Congratulations!

Waterdog, I see that you have a new sea plane! It looks like a lot of fun! I will be building it VERY soon and am looking forward to it's maiden on a big pond that forms close to hear during rainy season (BTW, it's rainy season ). I am downloading the long video on it even as I type. Can't wait to see what this one does. Your planes and plans are excellent! Thank you so much!

Well, we had a great time this morning! The whole family went out to one of the fields around here where I usually fly. I presented the new plane to my son and asked him if he wanted to fly it right away. He said, "Well, can I go and play for a little bit first?" I couldn't believe it. Well, he couldn't stand it and he came running back five minutes later telling me he wanted to fly. We had a great time flying. This was his first time flying a plane and he did a great job! This is a great trainer. Here are a few pics.

The first pictures were a little bit out of order, but you got the idea. A couple more pictures.

I am still looking for a friend with a videocam. No luck at the time.
Another plane? That seaplane looks good. Maybe I will work on another cdrom motor for the seaplane. Would love to takeoff and land on water but don't know where I can do that without a pond anywhere in my area, just 25 miles north of Los Angeles. Anyone out there know where I can do that?

Great Day!

Daddy-O, thanks for sharing your day with us. Good pictures, can see you holding the "buddy switch" as your son flies. How great is that? Glad I could help in a small way to having a fun day with your family. Makes it worth it all.

rLu- we'll be here when you find a video camera. Maybe you could fly off a Barbara Striesands pool or some other movie stars who live by? This thing will fly out of a Turtle pool if you got one!
