Build Thread for the new Topaz-e (full house version):

Here’s my new unlimited F5J competition sailplane – Topaz-e ‘M’, from www.e-sailplanes.com. I consulted with Dave at e-Sailplanes as I was looking for an unlimited competition F5J ship that could take a LOT of power, yield low wing-loading for exceptional thermal qualities, and offering crow for precision landings (I need all the help I can get…).

While I considered many others, I decided on the Topaz given its history of winning and fair price-point ($795)

In the upcoming post you will see more pictures than words (my strong suit…). I’ll do my best to describe my progress, but please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

Hi Brian,
That's how I plan to install mine.
What holds them in? I plan on using epoxy.
It looks like a screw on the left.

Here the servos are just taped in to check for fit.

Thanks,
I will definitely take some video!! I just have to figure out how to compress it enough and still keep it looking good.

Looks like a good performer I guess full-house Topaz will fall somewhere between Ava and D-box Graphite / Hybrid.

Did you weight the components?

Oranator,

I did not like to mount the servos in permanently. I built up mounting blocks with G-10(fiberglass board). Two 2-56 screws secure the two servos in. The rudder servo(back) just tucked in under the rudder post.

I also added a skid in the back to brace the lower fin. It will help push rocks and stuffs away from the fin.

ORanator,

Don't forget to put loctite on the rudder screws. Specially the lower one!

The pivot pins on the elevator rocker came loose on mine, took me a while o get the elevator off the rocker. I put a tiny drop of thin Cya to secure them.
