If you mean 463 in the AMA rule book that's correct.
However, it's still Altitude Limited Electric Soaring contest.

You have the option of taking a limiter and have it determine the highest altitude in 30 seconds and reading that off of the display upon landing or using a limited altitude shutoff at whatever altitude you choose to enter prior to launch, such as the AerbTec devices. Or if using a Soaring Circuits CAM that Randy Brust sells with different settings, such as TALES that can be set at 60/80/100m or the typical ALES contest format you're speaking of 100/150/200m.

Here's the reasoning behind since someone may be wondering.
See the attached screenshot of the top 10 pilots at Sunday's contest last year......
There were only two scores out of 50 that's not over 1,000 points!
This should give some separation to the scores and maybe make it more of a flying contest vs landing? We ran this format pretty much all last year at our monthly contests and it's just as easy to run as ALES without the complexities of running an F5J event. You don't fly against a master clock and still use your own timer and have a 10 second launch window.

Contest Update

Yesterday the Montana Governor announced that the 14 day quarantine will go away June 1st.
However, travel between Canada and the USA is still not open.

So the contest as far as I see it is still on. Now this begs the question...are folks willing to travel and Soar in beautiful Montana the end of June?
Are their still quarantine restrictions upon return to your home state? Any date on when they are going to be lifted?

Contest Update

The contest is ON!

The field is looking superb as we've had some nice spring rains. The long term forecast looks promising too.

In this day and age of COVID19 we're going to do "Jimmie John's" Party Boxes of Subs; Turkey, Roast Beef and Ham. Basically grab and go. This will be for both days. We'll also have chips, pop, water and some kind of side that each individual can dip out themselves or we'll have one individual dipping for everyone. Payment (nonrefundable) needs to be received NLT midnight 23 June Montana time to ensure lunches. See Post #1

The Saturday night BBQ we'll all be on our own as to what each person feels comfortable with. The flying in the evening is superb!

(NEW!) CLUB Competition
Yes, we're gonna have a little fun with Clubs and who's the best! So the idea is at the end of each day we'll take the top three pilots from each club, add up their scores and after both days combine them to award a Club contest winner. I understand that if you're from afar and don't have a full 3 person club attending then you can make your own club team, but you can't harvest from teams that already have at least three pilots. In other words if two pilots are coming from Virginia and one from North Dakota they can merge and become a club team. What they can't do is steal a pilot from a full club such as the Helena Flying Tigers who have many members attending.

Remember this is an ALES5J event.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
See you all soon!

If using an Altis and not wanting a hard preset launch altitude then I also suggest setting a 200m altitude limit and 30 second motor run to prevent the 3 point per meter penalty above 200m.
I'll explain more how we're going to score this at the pilots meeting Saturday morning.

Here's the suggested settings.
