Old Shipshapers
Anyone who may have been familiar with the long running ShipShapeRC forum will recognise a handful of those who may post here.
At least we hope they will. As always we’ll talk about anything even remotely associated with Rc sailboats, so, always something different. Nemo |

About me, for a start
I live in Bendigo, Victoria Australia and have active interest in Rc Sailboating.
Now that our general meeting place, ShipshapeRc form is no longer, I will post by topics on here for those I already know to do the same, but anybody else who feels like it. I started out with a hobby King bought monsoon 11 years ago and am now active, weekly, at our local sailing group. My blog for the group is www.tomcrusoe.racing Other than racing the various plastic boats I have, like the Phantom and DF95 I’m deeply into plywood construction schooners etc. Here’s a few pics on my “fleet” Anyone interested in this amazing D.I.Y. boats just let me know. |

Thankyou Nemo and Son for running the ShipshapeRC site for the last 10+ years. It provided me a great opportunity to share info on my interest on the cheaper RC yachts. Many great conversations over those years. It is unfortunate that there are idiots out there that think nothing of attacking sites which they have no interest in to the point where the maintenance of the site is just impractical. I applaud the hundreds of hours and money you put in to keep it going for so long. Hopefully some members will join in a conversation on this site. My other interests and RC boats and cars and model trains.

Murray River Paddleboat steams on
Well, motors on, anyway. I'm not into steam (except under the collar when annoyed with myself).
PS Alexander Arbuthnot (Alex for short) plied Australia's longest river on and off over the century and reamains as a tourist boat at Echuca these days. My rendition was taken on despite having any sound ideas how to make one. I got a detailed LARGE plan . 1:24, which was helpful, but not exactly a walk-through. Last month I went over him (it's not a her) and refreshed the paint and made and fitted a larger rudder other improvements in the electronics are not visible but overall trim has been re-tuned as stability underway is critical on a flat bottomed (this boat, not the actual). Also an earlier video (last year).
Anyone wanting more info, or just interested, ask here orPM me. |

Any thoughts about using the Sailboat forum for your group. Might find more interest.

Rudders /paddlers
Hi NEEMS , flat bottomed paddlers are notoriously bad on the helm ,Mississippi Delta Queen had six rudders ,three leading the sternwheel and three trailing Some stern wheelers had the ability to split the wheel with half going ahead and half going astern . ANY WAY am now moving on with the steam valves for my model engine (having come to a design decision) SO IT'S WINTER down here and time to be in the heated work shop Thus am chewing metal as compared to cold draughty pond side , Of which I had to compleat last years project (a retracting tool post for my lathe ) something I was meaning to make since first had the lathe some 25 years back just needed to find that Round Too It Moment PICS INC Regards C/P

Yes, we had' but because a fair amount of what we get into is non-sailboats we figured the members of that forum might think it was "Off-thread" and not appropriate. Unless we get more interest in that area we will just plod along with this thread and see what happens. For me I'm very active in the three Bearospace plywood schooner/sloops that are on RCG and that have an enthusiastic following for those specific models. Anything on those that appear here will likely be just mixed model racing here, locally . We'll see how we go. And thanks again! |

Thanks Neems ,Skills are found by basically just havin a go , Shure there is something in every project which you will not have come across before, My thoughts are that there is someone out there who has and a talkwith that person will soon sort things , EG:-- last job on the toolpost was to drill and tap for the height adjusting thread ,drilled OK first tap, OK then just running in the bottoming tap ,someone distracted me for a second and insted of backing the tap out I drove it deeper in and snapped it off , OOOPS thats fardened tool steel ,answer is an EDM hachine (electrical discharge machine ) Not some thing I have in my workshop , POSTED a request on my motorcycle forum (does anyone know etc etc) WAS advised to hunt out a tool and die makers ,Great found one 15 mls away Quick phone call, sure bring it over ,so for a donation to the coffee fund their EDM machine worked its magic , part retrieved and saved all the machining I had already done from being scrap , Where there is a problem there is usually an answer , I don't believe you don't have the skills Neems , what skill did you have when starting out to make Irene ,(its there in all of us ,It's weather we call upon it or not as the case may be Think how many tasks you have tackled without ever having done similar one s before?? Food for thought C/P

I'm all for having a go.
We only get one innings in this life and retirement is there to do catch-up. Part of the reward for having "that" go is that once you start to get the hang of it is good fun to help others along the same track without them having to invent the same wheels all over, or more to the point, making the same blunders. |

Hi guys, I’m also still working away on my Bearospace projects currently working on the Fast Schooner. As I was an avid member of Shipshape I will continue to keep an eye on this new thread. Good work Nemo.
