Vario 800 size Bell 412 revamp
I picked this up at the Southern Scale Challenge back in September and have been piecing together parts to convert it to an electric gear driven setup. I finished it up today, I used a Tacon Bigfoot 60 (400kv) motor I picked up for a FMS 1700 Mustang I never used, a Castle Ice 100A ESC, Brain2 BT flybarless controller and 6S 6000 mAh Graphene battery. It had been flown through a tree before I got it and had a big chunk torn off the nose.
This Heli was build several years ago by Paul Hudd in Texas, I just revived it |

Am I correct in assuming that you fly it without stabilisation? If so: COOL!
Word of warning on this mechanics: make sure the slow spool up programming is absolutely and 100% foolproof, or you will sooner or later strip the internal gear on the main shaft, as that transmission system was never designed to handle the torque that an electric motor can deliver on accidental full power startup. There is a much stronger all metal internal gear availlable from Vario, but it is rather expensive. It will allow for much higher start-up torque, but also relocate the faillure point to the gearbox bearingseats, and I don't know if that is preferrable, but just so you know it is availlable. A very good workaround would be to fit the Original centrifugal clutch between E-motor and first gear, it will 100% certain keep your power transmission whole. In fact it would largely eliminate the need for a slow spool up programming. |

Sick!
Looks and sounds great, but something's not right with the Brain2 FBL or needs more adjustment. Do you have sattelites plugged into it? Try the auto level feature. I know you probably don't like a co-pilot but it's a nice fuse which you already saved once so I'd hate to see it go. Keep up the good work. |
