I’ll put together a Friday night BBQ. Just bring your favorite beverage, I’ll provide everything, for a small fee! LOL

Except desert, I don’t do desert.

Maybe get some help from Armstrong, our 3rd place Nats finisher and pit master extraordinaire!

Friday Low Launch Challenge 1pm

With Tim's blessing we will have a Low Launch Challenge on Friday July 31 @ 1:00 pm (or later if some of you need more time to arrive). Entry is $5 in the pot. Second place gets $10, winner takes the rest.

I'll announce the start, stop, and progress times for the 1-hour flight window. Self time your flights. Attempt as many 5:00 min rounds as you can while trying for the LOWEST possible launch. If you don't make your time you can re-launch with a new 5:00 timer. No limit on the # of flight attempts. A full flight is between 4:50 and 5:10. NO landing tapes or points.

Sound good?

Fri Low launch challenge + BBQ

Got together Fri as planned for a Low Launch Challenge. At the pilots meeting Randy West shared an idea to tweak the contest a little. After discussion it was agreed to use the one-hour window to get your best 3 low launches. Then each pilot calculated and submitted their average launch height. It turns out this change forced you to manage your remaining time better since you had to be sure you had at least 3 full 5min flights. The results:

Ali Khani - 14.33m average
Bob McGowan - 15.0m
John Armstrong - 19.1m
Steve Wilcox sr - 22m
Randy West - 31.3m
Josh Freund - 32.0m
Chris Bajorek - 34.6m
Steve Wilcox Jr - 43m

Everyone put $5 in the pot. Even though Ali K. won he was a good sport and offered to split the pot with Bob M.

Later we were treated to an awesome BBQ hosted and prepared by Dale Olstinske. Tri-tip sandwiches, green beans with bacon, baked beans from Dale's secret recipe, 3 types of salads including 2 different potato salads (one was homemade from my wife Kathy), chips, cookies and more. Quite a spread. Thanks Dale.
