Have Bluecore....will fly

Well, the first thing I had to do was put on a smaller prop. Got to move quickly because it抯 getting dark and the wind is still in its short lull period. I should have around or just under a 1 to 1 thrust ratio with this one. From the way she easily pulled away before this should still be enough thrust. Also I needed to lower the expo on the elevons. She was way too touchy. The CG looked good and the sun was already below the horizon and there is just enough light if we hurry. No time for any other adjustments.

"123匞O!!"

On launch she still torque rolled some but not too bad this time. It again shot up pretty quick rolling back and forth as she went. Control was better but visibility was getting bad and she really needed some major fine tuning. After a short flyby over head I again powered down and brought her in for a landing. A little rougher one this time with some small damage on the front mandibles but just cosmetic. The carbon rods did thier job. It was now dark and time to go home and figure out what was going on.

Pitch control seemed fine, very sensitive but easy to fix. Yaw stability seemed ok also but Roll control was not to good. It rocked like she was in a basinet! Ideas, let me know please.

I was hoping to get in a couple more flights yesterday and today for some more testing and also to get more photos, no luck. This weekend I will try again. The pictures that you have seen here in these posts are the only ones I have. It was my young photographers first time with the camera and he didn抰 get many pictures. The First two are pretty good though. This one below is the only picture I have of the second flight with the ship in it. More to come and I抦 still working on some video.

All my girl friend's son could say on the walk back was "That was so cool!!" as he added ship crusing by sound effects!

"I feel a surge in the force"

Too much fun!!

How about installing a gryo on the roll axis? A gyro will geatly help correct for the torque roll on launch and will smooth out roll oscillations in flight.

My guess is that the roll control is a problem of the plane shape .

But what to do ???

Congrats on the first flight . Anything where you bring the plane
home in one piece is a good flight

You could try using two motors and props instead of one, and have them counter-rotate. That would eliminate the prop torque.

Yeah!
Or you could go to ducted fan... GO-RC, did you get the impression that it would/could fly with a fan?

On the oscillation issue. I think the bottom of the round fuselage might create that. Maybe run some temporary plastic pieces along the bottom to act as wind vanes. Or small clear plastic wings a couple inches out from the side of the fuse. I can clarify with a cruddy drawing if necessary.

Also check the Center of Gravity in the vertical axis, that is to say, if too much weight is on top, the craft will want to roll over. or if the major heavy components (like the battery) arent centered along the thrust line, could cause wierd problems keeping it level. The winglet idea will probably help, too, enemy.
