Have Bluecore....will fly

OK so no wings, no vertical stab, no air foil shape but with enough power and the right control surfaces will it fly? Can you imagine the look from others at the flying field as your Falcon glides smoothly around with tight barrel rolls and quick vertical climbs? Is it possible?

Have blueCore will try.

So just for something different and fun I'm going to give it a try. Hereís the game plan. Iím going to build a prototype out of Bluecore and power it as a himax brushless pusher. If it flies build a ship with a 6mm Depron sub structure and 3mm hull plating. Power this with a Wemotec minifan and a Mega 16/15/3. Iím going to try to keep them as scale looking as possible.
Not sure on the controls yet but was thinking of a vertical stabilizer made of some type of clear material, thin plastic or something light that wont be seen during flight. Also use a split elevon setup on either side of the motor. Maybe a little motor down thurst added in to help keep the nose up? Iím open for suggestions.
This is all for fun, so any comment or help is encouraged.

Below are a few pics of the ship and then the build so far.

Very, Very cool,

I have a stalled Tie FIghter project underway. The Falcon may be a good EDF ship?

I was thinking the same thing. The hole between the mandibles will travel right through the ship with the assembly supports removed and the hull design leaves plenty of room for the fan.
ATie fighter would be tough but cool!

Good luck with your build Chad. Where did you get the MF plan from ?

I enlarged the plan from STAR WARS The Essential guide to Vehicles and Vessels. It has a nice top view and a front view. Not a whole lot of other blue prints or 3-views out there that i could find.

Added the side rails. Went ahead and put them all the way around even over the side escape hatches. Thinking this would help keep everything aligned. I plan on cutting that portion out later. Got to love the ease of working with foam.

I really do think youve got a pretty good chance of that flying quite nicely - the shape isnt to bad at all..

Made a little more progress. Began plating the bottom of the hull. When it was done I gave it a good toss over the carpet and it glided straight and smooth for a moment till it lost air speed then the nose dropped. Haven't set the cg yet but I was encouraged.

Whow, that's very cool !!
I already saw project of X-wings but never the Millenium !! (also saw an Enterprise )
But, what system are you going to use for powering it ?

Anyway, this project rocks !

I'm watching this thread closely. Is there any chance those little GWS IPS geared motors may work with this?

Should be able to make some more progress today. I'll post more photos tonight.
Buku- I was going to power the pototype with a Hi-max HA2025-4200 brushlees motor and a Thunder Power 11.1v 1320 mAh battery. This should be enough to get her moving.

SnakeX2- If we can keep the weight down a GWS geared 350 might be enough to keep her flying not sure on the IPS though. Right now i'm looking for a flying weight around 18OZ. Keep fingers crossed.

I shall continue for the Force is my ally. And a powerful ally it is. Its energy surrounds and binds us. We must feel the Force around us. Here....there....everywhere! Yes, even between the land and the ship!

18 oz sounds a porker, still it must be big, hard to tell in the pics. I guess you want the power, as it doesn't look too aerodynamic!
I wouldn't mind seeing a smaller version if yours flys well. Maybe some plans would help . I plan to make a small, hot-wired version out of polystyrene, shouldn't take long.
Great progress indeed, and it looks damn good as well. Just imagine this thing flying, you couldn't get more crazy than you .
