Questions about acceleration sensor to judge free fall

Questions about acceleration sensor to judge free fall

Everyone, we have a product (not a quadcopter, it is a rod-shaped object.

The product has a built-in BMA255 acceleration sensor for judging free fall. The current judgment method is written in the datasheet: when the acceleration values measured in the three axis directions of xyz are less than a certain threshold, it is judged as free fall.

But now there is a problem. When this stick is rotating for free fall (as shown in the figure below), the acceleration values on the three axes do not meet the above free fall conditions, so this scenario cannot be determined.

Would you like to ask the great gods, how should you judge this posture of rotating and falling freely?

Thank you very much!

And what exactly does this have to do with multirotor power systems? NOTHING, that 's what.

The diagram is top-notch.

You could add a gyro on each axis to gauge rate of spin, then use that information to adjust your acceleration data appropriately.

Otherwise, add fins to your cylinder so it falls in consistent orientation, then sample accleration off the vertical axis only.
