My An 124 is not a printed plane by any means but really just an enormous pile of small printed parts that are glued together to help create a structure that is covered in thin Depron. Print bed size limitations means each of the 22 main fuselage formers is made up of 4 parts some of which are common, many are unique. This means there are 100 (I have counted them!) individual stl files for the fuselage alone. The ribs for the wing centre section are built in a similar way using 60 stl files. I doubt simply publishing the stl files would be of much use. The only true all printed bit is the motor nacelle and pylon and even that is built up from 4 parts glued together. If you are interested I could send you the 4 stl files that make up a nacelle and pylon but remember it is sized for a specific drone motor and prop. |

It has taken some time, actually 8 months, for some suitable really calm weather.
A video of its second flight. The true maiden this morning was rather short due to a motor problem.
It actually flies better than I dared hope due in no small part to the gyro. 'Slow and sedate' is about the best way to describe its handling characteristics. The elevator is very powerful but the scale sized ailerons only have 'modest' authority. It is now using 2 x 2200 mAh 2s wired in series. It weighs 1.6 kgs (56 oz). |
