2020 Torrey Pines Gulls DLG Contest/Clinic Series

Welcome to the 2020 TPG DLG Contest/Clinic Series. We will be continuing on with the clinic plus contest format. Our goal is to provide a monthly contest that is both fun for Sportsman and challenging for Open pilots. We will also continue the no-cost Intermediate class for full-time students. Please join us or just come on by to watch and maybe even time. This is a full year series with total points summed over all of the events so try to make as many of the contests as you can. AMA membership required to fly at the Poway Flight Center, TPG membership encouraged.

2020 Schedule:

January 18 - CD: Chuck Norris
February 15 - CD: John McNeil
March 21 - CD: Don Lochhead
April 18 - CD: Cliff Hunter
May 16 - CD: Ray Pili
June 20 - CD: Chuck Norris
July 18 - CD: TBD (looking for volunteers!)
August 15 - CD: Ray Pili
September 19 - CD: Don Lochhead
October 17 - CD: Gary Fogel
November 21 - CD: Mengchen Li

Unless specifically announced, pilots meetings start at 8:45am, and the contest starts at 9:00 sharp.

In case there are any new or DLG-curious pilots out there, I want you know that this contest series is very welcoming of new pilots.

For most contests, after the 4th task, we take a pause to talk about something DLG-related, with an eye toward helping new and more-experienced pilots up their game.

Seriously, if you're at all curious, come out and see what's going on. You'll find a very welcoming environment!

How to find us

If you've never been to the Poway flying field, you can find the entrance here:

Apple Maps: https://maps.apple.com/?q=32.956080,...02140,0.003227
Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/32.9.../data=!3m1!1e3
Lat/Lon: 32.9560985, -117.0096565

This is the main gate - drive through the gate, then follow the dirt road as it curves to the right - you'll see us up ahead after you round the trees.

Awesome!
I think I will take most of them regularly for 2020, as I don't plan to go back to China during the whole 2020.

Apologies for a little off-topic question... has anyone ever flown from the top of the dam at Lake Miramar? Pic attached of dam view from my from driveway. It's west facing and I would think ideal. Thanks!

New 2020 Tasks Are Coming ...

Hey Chuck and Torrey Piners,

I just signed up for the January contest. Please make sure it doesn't rain - we from Arizona are not even remotely water-proof.

Will we be flying the new tasks for 2020, i.e. revised Tasks D and E and new tasks L and maybe even M?

Software is available to do that, so ping me if you need my assistance.

It's a Game of Thrones Moment: Winter is New Tasks and the IHLGF are coming. Let's get an early start.

Charles what are the changes to D and E and what is L and M?

For Dec 21 winter postal we are going to fly a couple new tasks in addition to the Dec WP task.

Big Slide that Donít thought up and one called First and Last and maybe The Deuce.

Changes for 2020

> Flight times are truncated to 1/10th second
> One minute of no flying before each window
> Task D is now 2 flights only in a 10 minute window with a 5 minute max. The Ladder is gone!
> Task E (Poker) now with no more than 3 scoring flights
> Task L (new) is 1 flight only in a 10 minute window
> Task M (new) is like the Big Ladder, but with only 3 launches and a 3, 5, and 7 min max

New and Revised 2020 F3K ...

I've gone past there lots from the top and thought about it. Big trouble behand launch with the fence and lake but the right pilot should be ok
