My "soon to be' new AP ship (build thread)

I have most of the structural pieces in place. Let the hacking and slashing begin. I am using the wing from my paragon. a 3in mailing tube and arrow shafts to build what I hope will look and fly like Sparky Paul's twin boom inverted v tail ap ship. I intend to use an AXI 2820/12 to power it. The fuselage pod will be modular. with modules for video out the side, video out the front and photos out the side and a motor module. The arrow shafts are what is letting me go with the modular idea. I was able to find carbon fiber target arrows that are very lite. The largest shaft offered by this mfgr had an id the same as the od of the next size down. I will elaborate more as the build progresses. I am using a pentax optio s5i in the plane and also using it to document this build. Let meknow what you think and any help will be appreciated.

Sounds very interesting. Will you be able to remove modules when you don't need them, or are you planning to always have all modules installed? Changes in CG could be a real pain if you want to allow for modules to be moved in and out. But it would be a very impressive achievement. You could even have a power module, an electronics module (RX, co-pilot, etc)... I'm seeing a lot of Deans connectors.

Hack And Slash

Ok, not too much progress this evening. Being a single father of 2 teenagers slows things down a bit. I got the wing saddle cut in the fuselage, and the arrow shafts in there to support the wing and the tube itself. It took a while to get the the arrows all straight and as parrallel as my mk1 mod0 eyeball will allow. You can see by the pictures it "aint purdy" but it will be functional. In the end on shot, those silver tips are the inserts for mounting arrow heads to the arrows. I will be using those to mount the motor bulkhead to the tube. The next step is to back up all of the ca glue joints with epoxy and then hack the longer nose section off into two separate sections. Which will hopefully become my video and photo "mission packages". I've got my toes crossed. Cant cross my fingers I have wood to cut.

Feed back and constructive criticism appreciated

Getting closer

A few more pics. The individule "pods" OR "Modules" have been cut form the remaining nose section. Now cutting end supports that will help hold module contents in. Landing gear and radio equipment and motor next.

Ok,
Eventhough no one is watching I'm gonna keep posting.

Here are pics of the latest progress. Landing gear are on and bulkheads ahve been installed. I have decided to hold the pods to the fuselage with rubberbands. I think the pics will give you some idea of what I am trying to accomplish.

Let me know what you think?

I was wondering what I was going to do with my Pragon (built in 1980) - now I know - but talk about a floater, I used 14" spoilers in each wing to get the thing through the ground effects to land (slope flying in So Cal). But, with the ability to fly 10# of gear who cares? Keep up the thread - thanks.
