I love how the intro video says "more processing power than any foldable drone". That excludes the Skydio 2
Seems very interesting, price will be key. And hopefully all version will be available, Autel is rather notorious for introducing new models or features at CES, only to never release all of them Good to see the competition finally starting to ramp up |

It's interesting that the Pro version, the one with 1" sensor, has lower resolution than the "standard" II, with 1/2" sensor. Even Autel knows that 8k is a gimmick and a good sensor with good lenses is more critical for high quality video and pictures

I do see a use for that 8k sensor, it takes 48 MP stills. I am sure it would suck in low light vrs the 1" sensor but for daylight use it could be very useful for detailed photos that you could later zoom into. I have done a few airport crack surveys where I am photographing every sq in of the tarmac to document the size and position of cracks for repair. A higher resolution still camera would allow me to shoot at a higher altitude and still get better detail. I would be able to cover the space in less time. |

Autel Robotics Evo 2: (under construction)
Its 48mp Jim but not as you know it
Introducing the Quad Bayer Filter https://m.gsmarena.com/quad_bayer_se...news-37459.php https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.u...ra-sensor/amp/ Will be interesting to know how this all behaves if this is correct and it’s believed to be as all of the small sensors like this in cameras are. |

Autel Robotics Evo 2: (under construction)
Looks a nice machine but bigger is a shame imo.
Imo the 48MP model is marketing nonsense and should be avoided of the 2 models, people can’t deal with 4k let alone 8k. No one wants or needs 8K and there is reason most phones are no where near that and the ones that are using the Quad Bayer Filter “trick” to achieve the resolution. The 1” Model will be the one to look at but it’s a shame it’s bigger tbh. I looks a little on steroids. I would also be VERY cautious of purchasing any craft right now unless the manufacture is able to confirm if it can be updated to support NPRM in the USA and Remote ID in the future otherwise in around 2.5 years you could be limited to FRIs but you would still get 2+ years as it stands today. Overall let’s hope they actually deliver this time what they say, they have something interesting to bring but its hard to say this is really different from others when all craft sold will be required to comply with the EU NFZ and Id requirements as well as what mess the FAA bring. Right now we have the Skydio 2 that’s was the one to go for that’s not Mavic 2. Now we have this as well, I just find it hard to say why I would choose the Evo over others when they ALL will be required to comply with everything including NFZ and ID. Poor Yuneec must not know what to do with this now as well . |

All valid points Mad. What attracts me is the Pro model purely from a photographers point of view. It’s as ugly as sin and it’s mammoth size is off putting . With DJI’s re introduction of the P4P v2 it makes you wonder what’s coming down the line behind it. Interesting times in the drone world !

100% on the Pro. I would not want to go back to a 1/2” sensor drone again and that’s what’s a little Disappointing on the S2 tbh. But it’s all down to what you want and need.
It’s VERY interesting times. |
