Big Boats Rule!

I'm sorry if I missed a couple of posts in this thread. Rich, yes, I have been doing this for some time. Built my Lindberg Fletcher before I finished high school (1980??), and I still have it, and it still runs. Although it's been rebuilt and modified several times. The Coast Guard Cutter is from the 1990's. The PCF was documented here on RCG. As was the rebuilding of my Lindberg PT. And yes, my interest leans a bit more on the sailing side. But, my 36 (more or less) boats are almost evenly split between power and sail.

And ChisE is right on. Make sure any motor you look at has carbon brushes. The sweet spot for this size model is probably 2S, or 6-7 cell nixxx. There are (were) lots of micro cars & trucks so the esc's were easy to find. My cutter used the cobo unit (rx, esc, servo in one) froom the 1:24 scale Tamtech rc car line. I had the car anyway. Losi and someone else had a 1:18 crawler line for a while.

Amazon is also a good source. Just know what to look for. I found 5pcs of a 13,500 rpm 12v motor for under $5. Might be a bit fast on 7 volts, though.
