Anyone have experience with this Speed 300?

Hi

I was looking at Hobby Lobby's website and came upon the Simprop Electronic Speed 300 motor. Does anyone have previous experience with this motor? How much better is it than the Graupner Speed 280?

Thanks
Al

It performs as described in the H-L text. This is the motor they sent out to cure underpower problems in a lot of their WW1 Foamies such as my Sopwith Pup. Can't say it is "better" but as the text says, it puts out a lot more power and uses a lot more amps.

Hi,

the Speed 300 makes the difference between cruising and hovering for indoor models, but it needs *a lot of* amps. The power level is almost at Speed 400 level. Use a high gear ratio, at least 5:1. Use at least 350mAh NiCd's, 500AR/600AE fit better. By the way, this motor is good for very small ducted fan units due to its high kv (revs per volt) ratio.

Sounds like similar characteristics to the Permax 280 BB? That's rated at 30W output (versus 12W for the stock 280).

I was thinking about using this particular Speed 300 to power my GreatPlanes BLT but wasn't sure whether it would too overpowering.

I tried one as a replacement for a 280 motor in a form bi-wing plane and it worked pretty well but only lasted 3 or 4 flights before it burned up. Lots of current and battery didn't last very long either. Havent tried another one yet. Gave up on 280 motors and use either gws systems or speed 400 on slightly larger planes.
