align 500x

hi guys, I asked this question over at HF, but nothing. I am looking at an Align 500x and I know there are three models. I am considering either the base model or the step up with the aluminum case servos. the servos are sexy, but for the price of another battery, I can live with plastic..unless I hear otherwise. .any comments from anyone familiar with the 500X? thanks

I'd not be overly concerned about the servos, performance should be the same either option. What would bother me more is the ESC. The base version comes with Align's or BL-80X ESC whereas the upgrade versions come with the re-badged Hobbywing BL-80A.

I've not used the Align BL-80X but as a rule Align ESC's aren't great, weak BECs and very poor governors. The Hobbywing 80A V4 ESC on the other hand is excellent, very strong BEC, excellent governor and full telemetry data output (providing the Align firmware doesnt disable it?)

I fly the TT version and while I love it the TT gears are very fragile and will self destruct if you touch anything besides air.

All my helis are belt driven. Get the belt drive if you can. My first heli was a TT that didn't last long
