It's nice to have access to a good lathe. I'm retired, but do the occasional job.

mw757, nice place you live, spent 3 weeks on the island about 2007.
Thanks, we really enjoy living here. I’m setting up my ng’s control travel and then on to applying the decals. I’m aiming for a test flight Monday weather permitting.

Hello mates,

My Funcub NG is in the mail, I would like input on a few things before it comes in so I can have parts waiting. First off, what length servo extensions are you all running, for the tail and the wing? Also, for those of you who are running a spinner, what size?

Thanks!

I’m using 9” aileron extensions with 6”y adaptor, 6 “ flap , 18”rudder & elevator . The spinner in the kit is 45mm diameter

I’ve been flying mine for about a month now. It’s a definite improvement over the original Funcub...better landing gear, flaps and motor mount. I ended up using a permax 3720-630 motor and a 13x8 prop. With this combo I can use 2200 3s or 4s batteries. I tried a 5 blade prop, it looked good but wasn’t enough thrust on 3s.

Interesting . . . it seems like Hitec/Multiplex isn't importing them into the USA. It would be nice to know what's up. Last I heard the fire in one of the factories was holding things up, but it looks like the assembly line is working in other places worldwide. The website is simply blank.

I ordered mine from https://www.hoelleinshop.com/e-vendo...in_e&a=catalog . Due to Covid limitations, they had to ship ocean freight.
Have patience...mine took 2 months to arrive but was worth the wait.

Is the old original FunCub available anywhere?

Probably only in a dusty back shelf of a hobby store. I don't know of any North American distributor that still carries it and the websites are all dark on the model.

That's what I have been finding. Should have bought one years ago. Hopefully the new one will be worth the wait.

What should I do?

Hi all

After 5 year hiatus I am getting back to RC flying. I have a brand new ready to be flown Fun Cub then I see the NG version. Should I go ahead and purchase the NG or just fly the original version? I wonder if there is a HUGE improvement that I should not be bothered with the original. Dai

if you have one, what is the downside of flying it? or you could sell it if you prefer the ng.

The MPX power set 1-01423 comes with a plastic spacer 5.5mm thick which goes between the Roxxy C35-42 motor and the stock motor mount, I used the MPX spacer as a template to make a 12mm birch ply spacer to space the AXI motor forward to clear the front of the fuselage by 2mm, the plywood spacer is attached to the stock motor mount with 3mm stainless steel machine screws and nuts using the same holes in the stock motor mount, it is difficult to drill extra holes in the stock mount because of the voids and general construction of the mount, the AXI motor cross piece is screwed to the plywood spacer with stainless steel wood screws, I would have rather have used machine screws and nuts through the AXI cross piece, through the spacer and through the motor mount as the Roxxy setup does, but the pitch diameter of the AXI cross piece does not match up with the Roxxy mounting holes in the motor mount.

The weight difference between the Roxxy setup and AXI setup is 70 grams, I would have rather used aluminium tube standoffs rather than the thick piece of plywood to mount the AXI crosspiece directly the stock mount but the factory/Roxxy mounting holes really control anything you want to attach the stock mount, I think I will make another plywood spacer but a tad bigger on the diameter so the crosspiece mounting self tapping holes are not so close to the edge of the plywood.

This first Funcub NG is going to be a lightweight version, small motor, lightweight Esc, 1300 3S, , no flaps operation or flap servos and no wing struts, the bare NG fuselage does seem quite a bit heavier than the standard Funcub fuselage, I have a spare standard fuselage somewhere and I will do a weight comparison and see what comes up.

How did the weight comparison work out? Some of their “fixes” look like they added a lot of weight and made any repairs much more difficult.. ditching the one wire landing gear and just bolting a simple two wire gear on a flat plate on the bottom and providing struts would have fixed 99% of the issues

All the competitions planes are heavier than the fun cub and flew crappy in comparison. Hope they didn’t over engineer it and add weight that it didn’t need.

As mentioned, you'll only find them NOS. The model ceased production years ago, most likely due to the mold wearing out.
