OW Sunday 20th October 2019

Hi everyone

Last Sunday at OW was my first time at an AG meeting and very interesting it was too. I was there with my local flying chum, Geoff Bremner, at the invitation of Andy Nash - thanks Andy.

My Crane Fly didn't exactly disgrace itself; the fortuitous three-point 'arrival' that just cleared the fence was exciting! (who's a lucky boy , then?). I'm still feeling my way here, and I learned that there's no substitute for having the right Hang Angle. Despite having screwed a large lump of lead to the front after its last outing, the model was still exhibiting symptoms of nose-heaviness. I'm not sure how much more weight it will carry but I'm going to try an 1800MAh 3S LiPo in place of the 1300 MAh pack I was using on Sunday. This will add another 30gr and increase the Hang Angle to 18 degrees. Hopefully that will improve the 'sit' in the air and help the model to penetrate better. After that, I might try a full DC head conversion - if it seems worth it. Incidentally, I mastered r/c helicopters some years ago and I'm slightly surprised by the difference in handling between the two types . . .

My thanks to Bill and Malcolm for their respective help, Bill for bunging the CF into the air with such aplomb and Malcolm for the head bits he supplied for my newly under-construction Whippit. Very impressed with the various examples which were flown on Sunday.

It was good to see you all and I look forward to the next one.

David
