What the ATO is talking about is the ceiling of class G which could be 700 or 1200. You can look at a sectional map to confirm what that is where you fly.
This is all still in fluidity obviously but that is what they told the AMA last week which then of course kicked off this whole round of us reaching out to Congress Ryan |

Here you can see along the US Canada border, the text "1200 AGL". This is Class G airspace, and the Class G extends to 1200'. try Skyvector.com |

I thought this whole recent round of reaching out to Congress was due to indications that greater than 400' in CONTROLLED airspace would likely not be allowed. That in no way reassures me that greater than 400' WILL likely be allowed in Class G (uncontrolled airspace). Remember, Class G is the ONLY airspace where the recreational exemption SPECIFICALLY limits us to 400' AGL. For example see post #14 re the advisory circular. But it is there in the language of the actual exemption as well. I'm not saying that no relief will be possible in Class G-- just that I want to see more evidence. Steve |

And of course I encourage everyone to continue to reach out to your elected Congress folks: https://www.modelaircraft.org/higher-flight Try to do it at least daily. Vary the message up. Inform your friends and family. Call Congress. Reach out to them via social media. And of course let us know here how things are going and if you have heard back, etc. Ryan |

Just saw this. There was no new ruling. All that happened is FAA said they intend to enforce Section 349 as written. This upset the AMA so they went into panic mode..

One of them told me that these "to the ceiling of class G" talks have been with both the UAS integration office and ATO. He didn't mention who suggested ceiling of G to whom but did say that talks with ATO has been promising and that they were being receptive. I personally don't feel that 700 or 1200 completely fixes our problem. I think it is better than 400. I think we need to continue to push for at least some kind of waiver process for much higher altitudes. And once agin I'm just reporting what I have been told. What anyone here believes or does is of course their own prerogative. Ryan |

But whatever works or doesn't definitely we need to push for avenues to fly to much higher altitudes. We need to keep the emails to congress flowing. Ryan |

No, you can maneuver your RC glider out of the way but instead take your chances with a uncontrolled rocket. Makes sense right? Unless you cut your TX off above 400' then it will become a free flight and that's not a problem. Sorry I am just more and more frustrated every day.
