On October 19 and 20 the Rhode Island Soaring Club is hosting the end of the season ALES ESL contest at the most beautiful flying field in the North East.

Pilots Meeting Time: 8:45
First Flight Time: 9:00

The field will be available for practice and/or LSF tasks on Friday.

CD will be Maarten Broess and co CD David Beach.

Altitude limited electric soaring rules. All planes must use an Ales cam. Duration time and launch height will be announced at the pilot meeting. 75m landing rule will be enforced.

Saturday and Sunday are two separate contests.
Registration for two days is $40.00.

For register visit:

Prizes are awarded each day for the top three expert pilots. Separate prizes for Sportsman.

The pilot with the best two day combined score will receive the grand prize on Sunday.

Flying Conditions:
The contest will be held at the Rhode Island Soaring club. The club fields are beautifully manicured turf farms with wide open space without any flight restrictions. The RISC fields are considered the best soaring location in New England. You will not regret making the trip.

Our fields are close to the Ocean and it is not unusual for the wind to pick up in the afternoon. So be prepared for various windy conditions. Don't forget your ballast.

*Beware the field is an active sod farm and participants are expected to be respectful of the crops, farming activities and neighbors.

The airfield we plan to use is located of Dug-Way Bridge road in West-Kingston, RI.
Map of the field.
GPS coordinated: 41°30'14.4"N 71°35'45.0"W
Depending on conditions, one of the other RISC available sod farms may be used (just a few minutes away). Registrants will be notified by email in the event of a site change.

Food and lodging:
Drinks and water will be available at the field. Participants will have to bring their own lunch.

Plenty of Hotels / lodging are available in the area closer to Providence.
No onsite camping is available.

Looking forward seeing you all in Rhode Island.

The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday looks perfect. High sixties, sunny and light wind.
Also this is peak time for the fall foliage in Rhode Island.
We are going to have an amazing scenic flying event.
Last contest of the ESL season and who knows with the current FAA rules.
Cheers Maarten

Due to farmers activity we have to change to a different field on Sunday.

Saturday we will be flying at our usual location, Covel field. 41°30'14.4"N 71°35'45.0"W

Sunday we will be using our club field of Heaton Orchard road. This is another beautiful field with even more clear horizons.
