I have looked all over creation for a ZOHD or Sunnysky 1406 2600kv motor, no luck. They must have made it special for the Sub-250 Dart. So I guess I'm doing the Speedx GR1408 3500kv, which is as close as I can find to the Nano Goblin's Cobra motor, which remains out of stock.

These are super lightweight, I've had great success on the original dart. Sure a tad larger diameter but the efficiency is worth it! I used a apc 5.25x4.75 on 3s and 4s.

another option, https://pyrodrone.com/collections/mo...rushless-motor

The Hyperlite looks heavy at 20 gms, but the Emax looks like it's in the ball park, and I've had very good luck with Emax motors. I might just order one of those. Thanks!

Edit: I'm a little confused with the Emax. The specs say 4-5S but the test data for the 3600kv model are at 12.6v. I guess it must work with 3S, wonder how it does with 2S. Bigger props?

Edit: Here is the answer from GetFPV:
If that stator size and kV is what you're looking for it wont be a problem
They say 4-5S because it's made for 3inch drones

Edit: However, I see the Emax motor will require a prop adapter.

Here is another option

I'm considering the Emax RS1606 with 4000KV ... works fine on 3 bladed 4" props but I will try the delivery setup first.

Is there any different with the "/ \ " or "\ /" on the vertical stabiliser? As in flight characteristics.

Just another option...
R1106 5500kv and 4x2.5 2 blade on 2S looks like it work well, and would save several grams on the motor.

I have the same. might do the kit also, but with several mods to get it lighter than the ZOHD setup

Motor Selection for 2s

I just received my kit from BG today (placed order Oct 10) so now need to decide what to go with for the motor. I'm planning on primarily flying 2s 18650 and am trying to decide between something similar to the stock motor (1406-2600KV ) or something similar to the Strix Nano Goblin stock motor (1407 3500KV). I may wait and see how people make out with the stock motor before I order anything but the three motors I'm looking at are:

I realize that the last one is a higher KV than the stock 1406 motor but not sure if that will be an issue or not. I have the Racestar BR1407 on a foam board 75% FT Goblin and it will fly OK on 2s 18650 but is a bit sluggish - possibly due to the fairly draggy airframe. It flies great on a 850-1000mAh 3s lipo but the flight times are much lower than on the 2s 18650. Even on the 2s 18650, I am only getting about half the flight time my buddies get on their Nano Goblins using the same batteries. Guess there'll be some good discussions on the motor options so will be interesting to hear what people suggest and what they report with the stock motor.

I want/need to keep it under 250g so I don't have to worry about any Transport Canada regulations so will probably have to be very careful on my components. This is partly why I went with the Kit as the ESC and servos that come in the PNP version seem a bit overkill. On my other sub-250g planes I use a 15-16A ESC without any issues which isn't surprising given what they draw on 2s (under 3A most of the time).

Looking forward to hearing and seeing how this thing flies!

You could probably save about 20g just on servos, motor and esc alone

since this plane is roughly similar to the nanogoblin, which comes designed around its 1407 3500kv Cobra motor, those motors in the 3500kv range might actually be a better choice for many builds, especially if you wish to run an 18650 2S pack and stay under 250g. And folks use the nanogoblin motor with 3S too. But then prop choice can account for some of the difference in kv. Prop weight worth considering though
